Oh, the many things you can do in Ohio!
Scenic lakes, adventure trails, amusement parks, historical museums, and local festivals – there are tons of things you can do in the Buckeye State.
A Romantic Escape for Couples
There are over two hundred cities with thousands of vacation destinations in Ohio. The top three have endless offerings for couples looking for a romantic getaway.
- Columbus. Stroll hand-in-hand along the beautiful gardens of Franklin Park Conservatory, the riverfront on Scioto Mile, or the vibrant alleys of Short North Arts District. Spend a weekend immersed in culture, nature, and all things lovely.
- Cleveland. Share quiet afternoons enjoying the view of scenic lakes, lush greenery, and impressive art pieces. After a day at the botanical gardens, Edgewater Park, and the Museum of Art, head to the Flats District for fine dining or a sunset cruise.
- Cincinnati. Explore Ohio’s diverse flora and fauna at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden or stroll through scenic park trails nearby.
Aside from the major cities, several other areas make for great pocket holidays. Enjoy the beauty of nature and the waterfalls at Hocking Hills, learn about aviation in the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton, or relive your younger days at the Cedar Point amusement park.
Of course, vacations won’t be complete without tasting local cuisine. Savor the best dining experiences at Sotto in Cincinnati, L’Albatros in Cleveland, or Chez Francois in Vermilion. And if you’re around Canton, make sure to grab a Bittner from Taggarts for the sweetest treat in town.
Hidden Gems Locals Love to Gatekeep
This charming Midwestern state is full of hidden gems that aren’t always on the tourist radar – which makes them great for couples wanting to spend some quiet time alone.
- Cuyahoga Falls. Float the river on a sunny afternoon and enjoy how this once-polluted waterway has come back to life, with fish returning and eagles nesting in the sycamores. There aren’t many tourists who explore the falls, so it’s a great place to spend a quiet day together.
- Arc of Appalachia. Explore trails less traveled by to enjoy the most incredible scenery in Ohio.
- Fred’s Diner. Grab a quick but hearty meal at this old-school diner if you’re driving through Akron. It remains a top favorite breakfast joint for locals.
- Lake Anna. This lovely spring-fed lake is located in the quaint town of Barberton. After nourishing your soul in the serenity of the area, feed your tummies at nearby restaurants or the local brewery.
Best Time to Visit Ohio + Weather Tips
Ohio is a year-round destination, giving vacationers different reasons to visit each season.
- Spring is for the great outdoors. The weather’s perfect for strolls along blooming gardens, picnics surrounded by wildflowers, and leisurely hikes through state parks. It’s also the season when film enthusiasts troop in for the Cleveland Film Fest and foodies for the wine and food festivals.
- Summer brings crisp, warm weather ideal for fishing trips and water activities at Lake Erie, Marietta, Hocking Hills, etc. It also brings in the biggest crowds with its busy lineup of festivals, including the Jazz Fest, HOF events, and Pride festivities.
- Fall in Ohio will make you fall in love with the picturesque foliage – and with each other. When crowds start to thin after September, vacation spots feel a lot cozier. Fall’s also a good time to immerse yourself in the local culture with Amish Country festivals and other cultural events lined up.
- Winter is definitely for dreamy nights in hot-tub cabins and luxurious spa retreats. Ohio’s perfect if you want to avoid the winter sports crowd and spend the holidays filled with warm and cozy cuddles. If you’re planning a winter visit, book spa appointments in advance as they fill up quickly.
Buckle up for Buckeye – Tips for Your Ohio Getaway
Make the most of your vacation by keeping these tips in mind:
- Visit popular attractions on weekdays to avoid crowds.
- Reserve romantic restaurants at least 1–2 weeks ahead, especially for weekends and during peak seasons.
- If you’re in a major city, end your day at waterfront areas where you can get the best views of the sunset.
- Some activities, such as outdoor festivals and boat tours, are seasonal. So plan your activities ahead of time.
- Tips are, more often than not, expected. Servers would appreciate 15% to 20% as gratuity for good service.
- Contactless payments like Apple Pay and Google Pay are now accepted in some establishments, but many still use the typical swipe machine. Best to have a few hundred dollars in cash for hassle-free payments.

The breakfast provided was great! Maria was a great hostess. We enjoyed the conversation at breakfast.
There are snacks provided free of charge in the kitchen, if you feel like a snack in the evening.
It’s in a historic neighborhood close to a lot of the things we wanted to do while in Cincinnati. We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again!

The food and drinks were average(I ordered an expresso martini). The service is what I found to be disappointed with the most. I find it odd when you have to keep asking for water refills especially when drinking alcohol. It should be a given that it’s provided and shouldn’t have to be constantly requested.
My sandwich was good but the bacon was light skin so we had to ask for it to be cooked a little longer (the both of us requested this).
The manager eventually checked in and was extremely polite and kind. Due to my interaction with him I’d go back.
Bathrooms were clean and the overall aesthetic is modern and beautiful. I lived here years ago and to come back to this “new revamped” Columbus has been refreshing.
The design of the place is modern and boutique feeling. I loved the comfortable warm color of blue they used to paint the walls. The lighting was soft and rustic. The bathrooms were tiled beautifully and showers were great, although slow to get hot. The restaurant, bar rooftop and coffee shop made it not necessary to leave property and have great food and beverage options. The location across the river is quiet and yet close to everything. I found myself wanting to spend more time at the hotel than most other hotels I have stayed in.
The room and overall hotel aesthetic is the biggest plus for the Junto. It's so pretty. Lots of different food and drink options on site. All are worth checking out. What this place lacks is good housekeeping. I checked into a room that was riddled with issues. The bed was made completely incorrectly (no bed sheet, no duvet cover, had to call housekeeping to fix it) the toilet was not flushing properly and the padded area by the window sill was soaked deep into the mattress and I woke the first morning to my clothes I had left there absolutely soaked. Overall, I definitely recommend stopping by one of the bars or restaurants. I think I'd stay here again, hoping that I wouldn't be so unlucky as to get such a room. They didn't think to comp me in any capacity (until after calling) and also didn't confirm my credit card details which I was hoping to switch to a different card before they charged me and they had already charged me. They also charge a $13 credit card fee on top of other fees so beware.
Also, what exactly is a Community Development Fee that is charged on a daily basis to your guests? And you also pass on credit card processing fees to your guests as well…
