My experience in a recent stay at the Salamander DC Hotel could best be described as “a cut above” on all levels. Door attendants were attentive and kind, the front desk greeted me with a warm smile, and when my refrigerator was found to be defective; engineering came immediately after speaking with Elwin who was at the front desk overnight. He was a gem. Initially he thought I was a DoorDash delivery driver but soon realized I stopped down to pick up an order. Upon heading back to my room I let Elwin know of the defective item and immediately he went to work from me. Staff was gracious and provided me with a feeling like I mattered and was not just another guest. I would highly recommend this location. The rooms are spectacular. The bathrooms were huge, I took a bath for the first time in 5 years (6’6” former athlete) and had room to spare in the tub!!! It’s the small things that resonate. Food was expertly prepared, in-room service was better than I’d ever had in my life. The colds were cold, the hots were hot, and everything in between was incredibly done. This is a stellar hotel that is again a cut above the rest. 10/10

We are familiar with the Salamander Resort and so were very excited to hear of the DC property opening. We spent a long weekend there and had a great time. The service is impeccable from the moment you arrive starting with the Valet crew. Farhan and the other valet drivers knew our names after the first day and always greeted us so warmly. Everyone at the hotel was so kind and welcoming. It made the weekend that much more enjoyable. We could not be more pleased! The spa was fully booked so be sure to make reservations well in advance.

My husband and I had a perfect stay at the new Salamander Hotel in Washington DC. The staff was tripping over themselves to accommodate our every need. We got to enjoy beautiful piano music during happy hour in the lounge as we sipped on delicious craft cocktails and watch the sunset. The hotel is in the perfect location with a very quick walk to the Wharf and the monuments. Our room was beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. We can’t wait to stay at the Salamander on our next visit to DC!! Highly recommend!

Nice hotel but far below 5 star under new management.Pros:- rooms were clean and tastefully furnished- very comfy bed and linens- great location walking distance to the National mall- attentive staffCons:- the breakfast was truly inedible. Honestly an abomination for a supposedly luxury hotel. 3 star continental breakfast at best. Not even espresso was included, no veggies or salmon, just basic scrambled eggs and frozen “egg bites” and sausages and some oatmeal…- no espresso at a luxury hotel is crazy. No coffee maker in the room - have to go to the lobby for drip coffee. I ordered a double espresso to my room and the bill came out to $13.- amenities in the room were also lacking for a spa hotel. The diptyque shampoo products were nice but the place lacked basic vanity kits, face cream, toothbrush, hairbrush, etc, that you usually get at a hotel in this price rangeAll in all it was a comfortable stay but fell far short of expectations based on the price range, most likely the new management hasn’t had an opportunity to fully staff the kitchen, hopefully this will improve over time

Make sure to use Hoᴛᴇʟʙoʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏm when booking a stay. This site will compare hundreds of booking web sites and usually will have prices a lot cheaper compared to others! You're welcome :)! This hotel is one of the best in the area. I've been staying here for years. If you stay for a few days you for sure will love it I'm sure!We did afternoon tea here and the service and staff were amazing. Our daughter had the best time. The staff were kind, friendly, and attentive. The food and tea were incredible in variety and flavor. Will definitely come back.

We booked this hotel because it was part of American Express's Hotel collection. Usually, hotels with this designation are rather superb. However, Viceroy fell below of our expectations. The first night we arrived, we were checked into a room which had a very noisy furnace and refrigerator. Our family couldn't sleep at all, and they would turn on at different times, making loud noises. We checked in around 1 am, so we toughed it out through the night. The next morning, we notified of the hotel staff about the situation before we headed out for the day. They said they would send an engineer to take a look. When we returned, they only looked at the refrigerator, and it wasn't clear whether they had done anything. They said they would send another person to the room to look at the furnace. 15 minutes later, a gentleman came, and he just told us that's the way they all sound. WOW! If that's true, then nobody is getting any sleep at this hotel! Fortunately, another person came, and this gentleman said that it is abnormal, and that they would switch our rooms. It shouldn't have taken so much effort. On day 2, when the housekeeping staff came, we were still in our room, so we asked them to come back. When we were leaving for the day, we told the front desk that they can send someone to clean our room now. When we returned 10 hours later, our room was not cleaned. The room itself was ok, but it lacked hot water and a coffee machine.Note that the hotel also charges $25 per night "amenities fee".Overall, we were disappointed at this hotel and would not return or stay at other Viceroy hotels in the future.

The front desk staff was exceptional and efficiently accommodated our room requirements and requests. We could not have asked for a cleaner or more tastefully decorated room - and the lounge & restaurant were so good that I would have come back to visit even if we weren’t staying in the hotel.I recommend The Viceroy in the highest possible terms.

Dovetail, the restaurant located inside of the Viceroy, was the perfect place for my joint birthday dinner and celebration! The restaurant staff was so kind and gracious. They went above and beyond to accommodate all dietary needs and made sure we were comfortable and having fun the entire evening. The dinner menu itself was delicious! I couldn’t get enough of the hush puppies with pecan butter, yum! I highly recommend visiting the Viceroy and dining at Dovetail!

The Viceroy is an overall good hotel that could be great if they make some tweaks.Customer Service: EXCELLENT 5-Stars ++. Everyone and I mean EVERYONE was professional, accommodating. Viceroy, don't change your staff EVER. From the doorman and valets to the front desk reception staff (at ALL hours), the folks who work the little breakfast shop, the bartenders and restaurant employees and the cleaning staff we received top notch service.Rooms- this is where improvements can be made. Here are the highlights:*pillows are TRASH, just truly awful*bed/mattress was just OK*$14.99 for the good Internet?! You're already charging a resort fee. Like just stop.*Most irksome WHERE ARE YOUR FULL LENGTH MIRRORS, Viceroy??? People staying in your hotel are there for business or pleasure and NEED to see themselves from head to toe rather than using the elevator mirrors for a first real look at their appearance.Fix these things and you'll have a gem on your hands as the service is fantastic and its location is excellent.

This is the most expensive cheap hotel I have ever been to. The decor, photos, and website will trick you into thinking this is a luxury/boutique hotel, but I've never been so disappointed by a hotel stay in my years of extensive travel for personal and work. 1) the water pressure in the shower is worse than my 1930s row house and there's no vent in the bathroom, so your room will get overly warm and muggy, which probably doesn't bode well for mold and cleanliness 2) there is a $100 amenity fee but the gym was the size of a shoebox, can only be used by one person at a time per their policy, and has a single Peloton bike that hardly works, no complimentary coffee (you have to pay for it at their cafe), and the roof was closed, even for sitting/working/snapping pics. I'm not even sure what other "amenities" are included in the fee 3) when I tried to add on a night to my stay a mere week after I originally booked, I had to negotiate with the staff not once, but twice (because they added the wrong day) to honor the original price I booked at rather than charging me $120 more for a Thursday night. I would maybe understand an increased rate for a Friday or Saturday but they acted as though I was asking them to give me a free stay. I used to live in DC so I come back very often, and was excited to stay at a place I had always walked by to get to work, but I wouldn't even stay here again if work was paying for it.
