Absolute 10/10 hotel!! We had an incredible stay at the Watergate Hotel. The sauna and pool were spotless and beautifully maintained, which made our experience feel truly luxurious. The front desk staff was phenomenal from start to finish.

A special shoutout to Aziz, the bellman, who was an absolute gem — so kind, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. He made such a positive impression on us. Room service was fast and efficient, and housekeeping did an amazing job tidying up our room so thoughtfully. Everything was neat, organized, and done with such care.

When we had a small issue with our room, Dayron, the front desk manager, immediately upgraded us and handled everything quickly and professionally. His attentiveness and efficiency truly stood out.

We will absolutely be staying here again whenever we’re in DC. Highly recommend!

Everyone there was super nice the lobby was great but my entire room smelled like cigarettes and marijuana all night. People were knocking on doors all night keeping me up. Then at check out I paid the $75 parking fee at the desk and guess what my brand new Yukon Denali also stank like cigarettes will not be returning. The staff was awesome at the front counter however

An iconic historical name, but the actual experience falls short of other DC luxury options. It’s worth a visit solely for the history, but I'd look elsewhere for better stays.

The Experience: The rooms are adequate but unremarkable. Dining was mediocre. My guest’s steak was overcooked and had to be sent back. To the staff's credit, they replaced it correctly and removed it from the bill, which was a professional gesture.

Service & Booking Issues: I booked through Chase Edit, but the hotel failed to honor most of the benefits. The $100 credit wasn't applied, I was charged for breakfast, and there was no room upgrade. They were also very hesitant to provide a 1 PM late checkout. I followed up via email to dispute the bill but received no response. The first and only time this has happened to me.

The Highlight: The Sandalwood Spa is the redeeming feature. The sauna, steam room, pool, and jacuzzi are excellent and provided a much needed space to relax.

Verdict: Choose it if you are really into that part of the history, but I'd look at the Waldorf or the Willard.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the Watergate. Most notable to us was the attention to detail and thoroughness of the housekeeping staff. In general, all the staff were very kind and welcoming. We felt we were able to easily access much of the westside of DC by walking. The rooms are nice, quiet, and appear relatively recently renovated.

Some say that customer service is a lost art - not at the Watergate. My two day stay here was impeccable. The receptionists were polite and easily catered to my needs. The room was cool and stylish. And the views and location - second to none in DC. If you're not staying here as a guest, The Next Whiskey Bar is one of the most underrated bars in the city. Otherwise, I wholeheartedly endorse a stay at the Watergate.

I had a wonderful stay at the Watergate Hotel. Luxurious rooms were well designed with the Mid-Century vibe I expected. An amazing landmark. Wonderful staff. Lovely view. A 10-minute walk to the metro. I look forward to a return visit.

Magnificent room. Less than ideal experience at check in by one very unpleasant front desk clerk. Every single other person at the front desk were very Profesional and nice, specially a spanish lady who seem to be a front desk supervisor or manager. I was just stuck most of the time with the very unpleasant one but the others saved the day.

Service and location is excellent. Amenities are great. This is a 5-star hotel though. My room view was just bad, could only see a building right next door and a little slit looming out over part of the city.

The ceiling in the bathroom has water rot. There is likely going to be a mold issue if they don't address this.

Lobby looks nice, but can't get over the smaller details of the rooms being unsat for a 5-star. I've had nicer marriott rooms.

Great location for cheap Uber to sites or walk or ride complimentary bicycles. Room service is top. Clean bathrooms, loved the robes. View was fantastic and peaceful. Only thing was sad pillows and no trash bag liners. So bring your own. Loved staying on same floor as conspiracy suite 214. DC makes history come alive.

Prime location on the Potomac river, close to the Kennedy center and George town. Very nice design of the interior. Our room was very nice with a walk out balcony. King bird restaurant was an excellent choice for breakfast. The next whiskey bar was a cool place to grab a drink. We came on a weekend when the staff had their hands full from a security upgrade....but the staff always had a smile on their face!!
The rooftop bar is set to open soon ...but you can still go up and enjoy the views.
The salt water indoor pool and hot tub is very nice after walking to the monuments.
This was a great choice blending history and luxury to make a great stay in Washington DC.

Worst day ever. Arrived at 2 AM after the bathrooms for men were out at SFO. 10 AM meeting today. Ugh. I walked in dejected and frustrated.

Allen greeted me, asked me how my day was, asked me what he could do. WOW! That floored me. The definition of hospitality.

If you ever get a chance to stay at this hotel do it. Ask for Allen. Made an awful day bearable. Thank you Allen.

Charming historic hotel from the 1910's... But not really a good experience for us... This hotel was mainly booked because it's close to UC Berkeley. Our room hasn't been made up for 3 days in a row. The heater wasn't working, we had to change room after 3 freezing nights. The only compensation we've had is a 20$ breakfast voucher... Nice personnel at lobby though, but lack of efficiency...

Location is really great right next to BART and a Target. Kind and helpful staff.
Unfortunately it only goes south from here -- Poorly designed spaces in rooms. Noisy dirty sound permitting windows, clogged shower drain, airborne lint as well as layered on furniture, stained old seemingly never cleaned fabric furniture.
Over the week stay, my wife and I got sneezy and snotty. We got better as soon as we left. After changing clothing, sitting anywhere in the room got our clothes linty.
Like in other reviews, carpets need replacing but this is minutiae compared to other things.

They clean with vacuums all the time it seems, but that's not good enough. It's clear they don't properly clean the fabrics in the facility with proper wet tools and detergeants, if you asked me I'd guess they never did that, or at least for years.

Wish I could have given a positive review here, especially since the staff were so nice. There's so much immaterialized potential to this place, if it was not so offensively dirty we would have come back on our next visit despite the other failures.

I can see their comments to other reviews from years ago, talking about correcting these issues -- They haven't. The facility is still mostly in a neglected state. Saying they'll do something about it, and then not, impedes the credibility of their brand. So can't recommend, even if they pinky promise next time will be better.

Beautifully appointed historic hotel in the heart of downtown Berkeley - only stayed 1 night. The staff was attentive and very friendly.
Room was smallish - think European sized, but had everything we needed.
Spotless bathroom, great show/tub combo and with very comfortable bed. There is street noise but on a Sunday night it was nothing disturbing. Only issue was bathroom door was a sliding door that could easily get off its track, but not a huge deal. Would definitely stay here again in the future!

My daughter and I had the luck of staying at Hotel Shattuck Plaza twice in the last two months! Both times, we were amazed at the quiet elegance, the cleanliness of the hotel and facilities, the location, but the thing that really makes this hotel light years ahead of any other is the staff. The staff at Hotel Shattuck Plaza treat you like you are their family. They are so kind, welcoming, helpful, patient and warm! Danny at the front desk is incredible and goes out of his way to make you feel supported and cared for every time he sees you! I honestly will never stay anywhere else in Berkeley and I can’t wait to return! Thank you!

I usually don't leave negative reviews, but this has been the worst experience I've ever had. They charged me twice for the room. They haven't responded to my emails or calls. I had to wait for an hour to talk to someone who acknowledged the mistake and promised a refund. However, it's been 2 months and I still haven't received my refund. I had to call again, and the same thing. I hope sharing this message will prompt them to improve how they treat their guests and give me my money back.
Our BHS Reunion was a lot of fun. Great to get together again.
The final bill came with some really big surprises and we now need to resolve the issues.
Will choose another venue for next time... 🙁

Everything was lovely except for outside noise. Was woken at 7am by garbage trucks, at 3am by a police siren on the main road, and there is a building site behind, but I wasn't facing it. If it were properly double glazed for soundproofing, it would be a super place to stay. Good vibes and friendly staff.

Location and rooms are great. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The only issue is the lack of response and concern about requests. Asked the main desk to have the ice machines in the 5th and 4th floor fix. While the kept informing me that the had submitted a repair ticket to have the ice machines fix immediately, during the 7 days I was there the machines were never fix.

Pleasant and clean hotel with nice size rooms. Staff was nice and attentive. Only two elevators and one was not running during our stay.

It is an old hotel so walls are not very good at controlling sound. Bed was pretty good, a little soft. Bathroom was very nice. TV and wifi good.
Front desk staff and greeters were awesome.
Not awesome and why 4* is no on-site parking so you have to unload if you're lucky then Park half a block away in the parking garage or on the Street. So on top of the cost of the room plan $35 to 50 a night for parking.
