Iowa City Hot Tub Hotels: Quick Guide

Quick reference for booking a Jacuzzi suite in Iowa City, Coralville, and the surrounding area, Iowa

Best Time to Visit

  • Fall (September-November): The most important season, driven by University of Iowa Hawkeyes football. Home game weekends (six to seven Saturdays) fill every hotel within 30 miles. Autumn foliage along the Iowa River is beautiful. Book 6-8 weeks ahead for game weekends. Non-game weekends offer excellent availability.
  • Spring (April-May): Mild weather and UI graduation (mid-May) creates a secondary demand spike. Good availability outside graduation weekend.
  • Summer (June-August): Warm and pleasant. Iowa City's literary culture (UNESCO City of Literature), farmers' markets, and outdoor dining are in full swing. Moderate pricing.
  • Winter (November-March): Cold with snow, temperatures in the teens and 20s. Hawkeyes basketball creates periodic demand. Otherwise the quietest season with lowest pricing. In-room Jacuzzis are especially appealing in Iowa winters.
Booking tip: University of Iowa Hawkeyes football is the single largest demand driver. On home game weekends, hotels within 30 miles sell out weeks in advance and pricing can double or triple. Check the Hawkeyes schedule before booking any fall weekend. Most hotels are in Coralville (a suburb immediately west of Iowa City along I-80), while Cedar Rapids properties (about 25 miles north) serve as overflow and airport-area alternatives.

Important Booking Tips for Iowa City

  • Confirm the exact room type: Look for "Jacuzzi Suite," "Whirlpool Room," or "Spa Tub Suite" when booking. At Country Inn, La Quinta, and AmericInn properties, not every room includes a private tub.
  • Hawkeyes football weekends: University of Iowa home football games (six to seven Saturdays, September through November) are the dominant demand driver. Hotels within 30 miles sell out weeks in advance. Book 6-8 weeks ahead for game weekends. Cedar Rapids properties (25 miles north) serve as overflow when Coralville and Iowa City fill.
  • Coralville vs. Cedar Rapids: Most Iowa City visitors stay in Coralville (immediately adjacent, $68-$86/night for well-rated options). Cedar Rapids is 25 miles north but has the regional airport and some of the highest-rated properties (AmericInn 9.5/10, Hotel at Kirkwood 9.0/10). If flying in, Cedar Rapids is more convenient; if visiting UI campus, Coralville is closer.
  • Shuttle service: Heartland Inn Coralville is the only property in the dataset that offers a free shuttle to University of Iowa Hospitals. If visiting someone at UIHC without a car, this is the most convenient option.
  • Casino and golf resort: Riverside Casino and Golf Resort ($270, 9.5/10) is about 20 miles south of Iowa City. It offers championship golf, spa, and gaming alongside Jacuzzi suites. The most upscale option in the dataset, designed for a resort-style getaway rather than a campus visit.
  • Free breakfast included: AmericInn Cedar Rapids Airport, Dutch Country Inn Kalona, Sleep Inn North Liberty, Country Inn Coralville, Heartland Inn Coralville, La Quinta Coralville, and Quality Inn Coralville all include free breakfast.

One of the tightest casinos I've ever been to. I was just passing through on my way from Minneapolis to St Louis, so I seen the sign and stopped. I played $700 on the slot machines and none of them wanted to pay out anything significant. I burned through a lot of twenty dollar bills on maybe twenty machines and couldn't win anything back over 3 times my spin amount. If you're just passing through like I was I would advise you to keep on driving. Lol

Very nice casino. Took a whirl around the buffet and had 2 beers. I didn't go away hungry, but for what I paid I thought the selection would have more variety. $7 Corona's. I spent some money gambling. I had a nice time. The staff was very friendly!!

Great Casino and Golf Resort, probably the best one in Iowa. Great poker, good table games (I don't play slots) and hotel rooms are top notch. Some of the rooms could use a carpet update and a microwave should be standard but otherwise good especially for the price. Golf is one of the hardest/best experiences in the state of Iowa, if you are a decent player you need to play this course. Overall one of my favorite places in the area (I live in North Liberty).

We always stay here when I have an appointment at the VA in Iowa City or if we just want an adventure to the casino.
The staff is always very friendly, and the rooms are amazing!

Ruthies has the best food. We also have enjoyed Robert's Buffet with so many food items to choose from.
I am a casino enthusiast and sometimes I even have good luck there!

Rooms are awesome, would've liked a microwave! But beautiful relaxing colors made it warm and welcoming. The desk attendants are alright, not very helpful with rewards points , rooms, etc.perhaps we needed a different person. The ice cream is the best.

Made a reservation for 1 night, stayed 1 night, hotel double billed me for 2 nights. Called and emailed them asking that they correct the obvious billing error and management refused to fix their mistake and refund the erroneous charge. Plenty of other hotels in the area that won’t double bill customers to cover for their poor occupancy rate, don’t give these crooks your credit card.

I stayed here for 5 nights in a row.. I saw an employee twice. The hot breakfast is terrible (even the coffee), and in a different building. People were coming in off the street and putting food in their pockets. It was a ghost town for employees. The whole place, aside from the room, felt very dated. They put me in a room at the end of the hall, and there was a horrible draft coming in from at exterior door two floors down, that whenever someone went through to the stairs to go to the pool or the gym, the door on my room rattle so much that my poor toddler was convinced there was someone trying to come into our room. It's super overpriced for what is included. No daily maid service, you have to call and request it. And don't get me started on the water pressure.. and on top of it all, there are signs everywhere promoting the Mexican restaurant located at the front of the building, which I tried, and it was, no exaggeration, the worst restaurant I've ever been to. I stayed there because it was the closest BW to my destination and I paid with points. Next time I'll go back to the Marriot down the street.

The bar was not open on Saturday night. We sat in the atrium chatting and the lady kicked us out. Closes at 10 PM. We were not loud or disruptive. Too strict of rules. Pool was nice but not allowed to have Any drinks. Not even water. Breakfast was good but they close at 9 AM. Worker told us to leave around 9:15 AM so he could clean up. So many weird rules! Great location and nice hotel but could be less rigid !!!

Nice hotel. Customer service was great and the rooms were clean and in good condition. The bed was as comfortable as any I’ve had. Didn’t eat breakfast but was told it is very good.

Overall, a pleasant experience. The staff were all nice and friendly, with one minor exception, which I will get to.

I chose to stay here for a couple of reasons. We've been there before and had good experiences, a wonderful breakfast and so on. The other reason was I was trying to find a room with something unique or special. Well, they have a room with a sauna and hot tub in it. I thought that would be really cool (ha ha) so I booked it. Both of those extra luxuries were quite nice. The room was huge and the bed very comfortable. We stayed two nights and it was the best sleep I've had in a while.

The only real downer was the breakfast. We stayed Saturday through Monday. Breakfast on Sunday was subpar. There was nothing to spray on the waffle irons and, guess what, the waffles stuck to the iron! Just the way I like them. (not really) The hash browns were decent. The sausage was a bit iffy, being shriveled and dry, but it tasted okay. I had some grits, too. Instant. And you had to make them yourself with no way to measure the water. The only really good thing was the frosted flakes. I have memories of having a really good breakfast there in the past. Not this time. We went back over on Monday to see what they had, hoping it was improved - maybe someone had been filling in on Sunday and wasn't sure how to do the job - I dunno. We were being optimistic, I guess. On Monday, the "Gold Zone", which is what they call the breakfast nook, was closed. We found a long letter taped to the window in which it was explained, among other things, that if you want breakfast on a Monday you can get yogurt and microwaved sandwiches at the front desk. I'm pretty bitter over that, actually, as other than that we were having a great weekend. At the very least they could have told us at check in time that the Gold Zone is closed on Mondays.

We'll probably come back some day. The weekend was certainly not totally ruined. Just very disappointed by the lack of a decent breakfast. It turned out all right, in a way. We found a place a short drive away called Morning Story that does a fabulous breakfast.

I should mention, though, that this is a fairly quirky motel with a skywalk and decor in the game room right out of the seventies, complete with a spiral staircase. I love that!

I would recommend staying. Just, maybe, don't get your hopes up for breakfast. I get it. It's free. I'm not sure it's worth that price, though.

We weren't sure about choosing Cedar Rapids for a weekend getaway but we are glad we chose this hotel. Fantastic location, a sauna that gets hot, a fitness center that rivals Planet Fitness in a condensed version with an even better free weight area. The staff we very friendly and professional. The rooms were clean and attractive...and I pay attention to detail. My only disappointment was that breakfast ended at 9am. I sleep in a bit while on my getaways . Perkins was close and the service there was fantastic as well. Thumbs up to Cedar Rapids! We will be back.

I actually love staying here have been in numerous times till I got into town a half an hour early asked when check in was they said my room was available but I couldn't have it unless I want to pay a fee of $25. That's customer sevice? I'm at the wrong place I'll be going to the competitors from now on I know I'll get better service, got into town early at other hotels numerous times never had this kind of a problem, ridiculous, sitting in my car for 30 minutes and the room is ready? that's the epitome of poor customer sevice if you look it up in the dictionary that's the first thing they'll give us an example. that's why you don't hire robots you hire people when AI takes over I'll expect that kind of treatment not yet.
