Texas is big enough for very different trips for two: a wine weekend in Fredericksburg, a creekside cabin in Wimberley, a Victorian inn in Galveston, a night under Big Bend's dark skies. This guide covers 10 places couples love, with what to do, when to go and hotels and cabins where the room has its own jacuzzi or hot tub.
CNN Travel called Fredericksburg one of America's Most Romantic Small Towns, and Reader's Digest put it on its list of the 13 most romantic small towns. The draw is wine: more than 75 wineries, vineyards and tasting rooms in Gillespie County, many along the 290 Wine Trail, with Main Street in between.
What to do
Hike Enchanted Rock, a 425 foot pink granite dome, at sunset. Book ahead: the park takes reservations up to 30 days out.
Stay for a star party at Enchanted Rock, an International Dark Sky Park.
Taste along the 290 Wine Trail and the Texas Hill Country Wine Trail.
Walk and shop Main Street together.
When to go: October, which is Texas Wine Month, or spring for the wildflowers.

Fredericksburg in the Hill Country is a common pick. CNN Travel called it one of America's Most Romantic Small Towns and Reader's Digest put it on its list of the 13 most romantic small towns, for its wineries, Main Street and Enchanted Rock.
What is the best time of year for a romantic getaway in Texas?
Spring and fall. March and April bring the wildflowers and the azaleas in Tyler, and October is Texas Wine Month in Fredericksburg. In Big Bend, the comfortable season is November to April.
Where should we go in Texas for an anniversary?
A Hill Country B&B with a jetted tub is a classic choice. The Full Moon Inn near Luckenbach, outside Fredericksburg, has a room with a jacuzzi tub that it bills for anniversaries and proposals.
Where can couples go for a 3 day weekend in Texas?
A Hill Country loop works well: Fredericksburg for wine and Enchanted Rock, Wimberley for creeks and cabins, and Gruene for Gruene Hall.
Is South Padre Island good for a couples trip?
Yes. The island's tourism office publishes a romantic getaway guide (sunrise walks, horseback rides on the beach, Sea Turtle Inc.), and AAA lists it among Texas romantic getaways for its beaches and Gulf sunsets.
