This is a spectacularly beautiful hotel located right in front of the Torrey Pines golf course and the Pacific Ocean. We stopped by to take in the views and eat at the Grill on property. It's feels like a high-end clubhouse as you walk through to the restaurant. If you're a golfer, this is a must visit property. The views here are amazing. As non golfers, we would definitely love staying here one day!

Stayed here for our 27th anniversary. Very serene. Exactly what we were looking for as we want peace and quiet when we celebrate our special day. Staff were welcoming and the entire place is gorgeous. The only negative thing I would say is the insulation of the rooms. You could hear people’s conversations in the hallways and your next door neighbor. I understand that the building were constructed years ago. Other than that, this place is highly recommended.

Booked a room as a last minute "get out of town for break" trip. Stayed 4 days. From Nikki at the front desk (her fabulous recommendations) , to Colin and Nick at the bar (both had great personalities and made killer lemon drops), it was well above 5 star service. We had room service breakfast everyday. The food was hot, it was good, and they delivered right on time if not 5 min early. Housekeeping staff made sure we didn't want for anything. Valet had my vehicle ready everyday I needed it by the time I got from my room out the front door. Fantastic and will see you next year!

First off this property is beautiful and the staff are amazing. The food at the restaurants is delicious, truly amazing menus. That being said, this high end hotel is next to a PUBLIC golf course where they use a PA system to call tee times starting at 5am. There is not a warning or disclaimer at all on the website, at Check-In or otherwise. In addition to this disturbance, the hotel doesn’t have consideration when breaking down their events and STARTED breaking down a lawn wedding at 1am right outside our window. If you want to spend this amount on a experience, I highly recommend going somewhere else.UPDATE: 5 stars:The hotel manager reached out to me and apologized for our experience at the hotel. Bill took the time to call me personally and follow up via email. He explained the situations that caused our stay to be less than ideal. The golf course is public and not apart of the hotel but he did mention that he talked to the pro shop about moving the PA system away from blaring at sunrise into the guest rooms at his hotel. Hopefully that happens, for the hotels sake. The event staff were a third party and actually not supposed to be there after 10pm, the hotel has had to deal with their vendor. It is my understanding that it is their policy to have events all wrapped up by 10pm. As I mentioned, we enjoyed the property, restaurants, views, beautiful rooms and accommodating staff. We look forward to visiting again and appreciate Bill's hospitality.

The location and view are great as you would expect, but it's the staff and the unpretentious old school vibe which surprises and makes this hotel special. No need to be playing golf to stay and enjoy this great property. A+ to the management, staff, and all the effort it takes to make that happen. Rooms are slightly dated stylistically , but everything is clean. Family friendly, great pool cocktails.

My husband and I just returned from five nights here at the Bardessono. I could not recommend this hotel more. All of the staff, from the front desk, to valet, to wait staff to housekeeping, and management were attentive, friendly and helpful. The grounds were perfect. The attention to detail in the rooms is exquisite. We loved the outdoor shower, reading out on the patio, the gas fireplace. The steam shower and jet tub made it hard to want to leave the room when you have your own private spa. The furnishings and decor were perfect - modern and clean yet comfortable. And the fridge was always stocked with water and soda. If I could give six stars I would. Worth every penny and I would love to visit again.

My wife and I stayed at the Bardessono during our honeymoon and had an amazing experience staying there! Every member of the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Our suite was clean and spacious with so many luxurious details. It almost made it hard to leave the room to go out for wine tastings! The whole resort provided a sense of privacy and promoted a space to truly relax after a day out at the wineries. We cannot wait to stay at the Bardessono again!

We had lunch there January 2024. Soup and dessert were very good, but the pasta dish was a failure in my book. Was supposed to have sage brown butter. I found a microscopic piece of sage and no brown butter. I sent it back and they returned it with a bit of lemon juice sauce. I wanted to go to the kitchen and have a discussion with the chef. The outstanding service helped make up for it.

I've worked in the very upscale hotel arena in San Francisco for 25 years and I was completely underwhelmed by this hotel. It was dingy. It needs a good scrubbing and lots of paint touch ups.The front door is filthy, gross, because they don't clean off the hand grease. The brass handles on the front doors really need to be cleaned and polished! It just takes tomato ketchup! Nothing toxic. There were so many things that need to be repainted. The paint has chipped off or worn off and let stay that way. So too, the dirty floor corners. A small vent screen was coming off the wall and it really needed to be cleaned. No one there has a good eye for detail/cleanliness. The garden also needs a little more tending too. It's a shame there's so much medium disrepare. I had come to check out the place to celebrate my son's upcoming milestone birthday there so I didn't go into any of the rooms.Maybe they're running on a skeleton crew because of C-19 but it's over now and hopefully they'll upgrade the upkeep.Sorry!

I recently planned a corporate retreat for a few clients and we decided to have our guests stay at the Bardessono Hotel. Our guests had a fantastic time and accommodations were exactly what we hoped for. The rooms were immaculate and comfortable with lovely touches such as automatic motorized shades, fireplaces in each room, turn down service every night, and VERY comfortable beds. Beyond that, the customer service from the entire staff -- including front desk, valet, kitchen workers, and housekeeping -- was unmatched. They were incredibly attentive and anticipated our needs like seasoned professionals. I have never experienced that level of service before and it was greatly appreciated. We (and our guests) also appreciated the hotel’s commitment to sustainability and also loved the little touches, such as aluminum water bottles in every room. The location of the hotel is perfect because it's a short walk to all shops and restaurants but is cozily nestled in the middle of a beautiful neighborhood. We got up early one morning and even got to see the hot air balloons launched over the mountains for their daily tours. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Napa area and I hope to return one day for a future event.

OUTSTANDING! Couldn’t have had a better stay. From the moment we walked in I felt beyond relaxed and accommodated for. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful; pointing us in the right direction when it came to securing dinner reservations for our friends birthday. We spent the day lounging by their amazing pool, and had lunch at their restaurant which was an 11/10. Highly recommend to anyone coming to Napa. Location was perfect and steps away from the two best bakery’s in town. The hotel has bikes to use to bike around downtown as well as a hot tub to lounge in after a day at the wineries!! The room was stunning and comfortable for four people. Everything was perfect. I will definitely be back!! Thanks for the amazing stay!

AMAZING experience here. The entire staff went above and beyond for a truly bespoke and special experience. Extremely kind, accommodating, and welcoming. The rooms were stunning and the concierge service was impeccable - helping to secure exclusive reservations and even provided transportation for us. I can’t say enough good things, I can’t wait to visit again.

FAQs about romantic getaways in California

What is the price range for a romantic getaway in California?

The price range for a romantic getaway in California can vary widely based on location, type of accommodation, and season. Budget-friendly options might start around $150-$250 per night, while mid-range hotels can range from $250-$500. Luxury resorts and boutique accommodations could cost anywhere from $500 to over $1,000 per night. To find the best deals, consider booking well in advance or searching for off-season discounts. Keep in mind that experiences like wine tours, fine dining, and special activities will add to the overall cost of your getaway.

What amenities can couples expect at romantic hotels in California?

Romantic hotels in California often cater to couples with amenities designed to enhance their stay. Common offerings include on-site spas with couples’ treatments, fine dining restaurants with intimate seating, private balconies or terraces with stunning views, and luxurious bedding for a comfortable stay. Many hotels also offer romantic packages that might include welcome champagne, chocolate-covered strawberries, rose petal turndown service, and reservations for special experiences. Always check with your hotel in advance to see if they can accommodate any special requests to surprise your partner.

What are the best activities for couples on a romantic getaway in California?

California’s diverse landscapes offer couples an array of activities to deepen their connection. Enjoy wine tasting and vineyard tours in the rolling hills of Napa and Sonoma, sunset beach walks along the Pacific Coast, hot air balloon rides over Temecula Valley, or scenic drives along the Big Sur coastline. Urban couples might prefer exploring the cultural sights, museums, and fine dining options in cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego. Outdoor enthusiasts can venture into national parks like Yosemite or Joshua Tree for hiking and breathtaking natural beauty.

What is the best time to visit California for a romantic getaway?

The best time for a romantic getaway in California largely depends on your desired experiences and location. Spring (March to May) and Fall (September to November) offer mild weather, fewer crowds, and the natural beauty of blooming flowers or autumn leaves, making them ideal for exploring both coastal and inland regions. Wine country is especially beautiful in the fall during the grape harvest season. However, for those looking to enjoy the beaches, summer (June to August) provides warm, sunny days perfect for seaside romance.

How can couples on a budget plan a romantic getaway in California?

Couples on a budget can still enjoy a romantic getaway in California by planning strategically. Consider visiting during the off-peak season when hotel rates are lower and popular destinations are less crowded. Look for boutique hotels or bed and breakfasts which often offer more competitive rates than larger resorts. Embrace outdoor activities like hiking, beach days, or scenic drives, which are low-cost but high in romantic potential. Additionally, many cities offer free or donation-based cultural attractions, such as museums, gardens, and historic sites, ideal for romantic explorations.
