My stay at Northfield Inn suites during a family emergency was cut short. We arrived and checked in at around 7pm I believe, and checked out in a rush around 12:40am. My boyfriend has family right down the road from this hotel, so we've stayed many times there under his name and mine, along with the Ramada across the way. We've always had a wonderful experience, however this time was very different.
We checked in and went to dinner, but afterwards I wasn't feeling well and was unable to go with my boyfriend to visit his family. I stayed back, in the hotel room and awaited his return. Upon his return, we got ready for bed and I went to use the bathroom. When I entered and turned on the light, a very noticeable bug was on the floor crawling around. Because I've frequented hotels often on road trips, I immediately recognized the bug. It was a beg bug. I could not pack my things fast enough to vacate the area. Upon informing the young man named Riley at the front desk, I was met with an attitude of indifference and of no concern or alarm, when I was clearly shaken about the situation. He offered another room to which I declined, and he lacked any sort of empathy as he told me he could not issue a refund. The refund was not the issue, it was his attitude about it.
However, the morning Manager Sarah was polite when she reached out later in the morning while we were at another hotel. She informed us we left things behind in our rush, and explained the refund process. However, her concern about the situation and my findings was sort of lackluster.
I don't expect anyone to hoot and holler and cause a ruckus, but some significant concern seems appropriate given the situation. At least remorse for my experience. This was truly one of my worst fears, as I mentioned I travel quite a bit.
Also notable, I didn't catch her name but the lady who checked me in is quite pleasant. She's friendly, bubbly and left a very good impression upon check in.
Unfortunately we will no longer be using Northfield or the Ramada as our options when in town. As I mentioned they're in close proximity to family and quite ideal, however I cannot take the risk of bring home unwanted, pesky guests.
*edit after the response from hotel* The likelihood that there was one lone adult bed bug is unheard of. It certainly didn't come in with me. And the "sincere apology" was more indifferent and unconcerned. Yes, I was fully refunded after speaking to the manager in the morning.
The last time I stayed at this hotel, I was really surprised how much the place had improved since my last stay over 4 years ago. It was cleaner and the people working there never stopped smiling. I felt like I was in some toothpaste commercial. All were very helpful. The price surprised me as well, not bad. No complaints
When my workplace (state funded social service agency) put me up in this hotel I was quite honestly expecting somewhere a slight step above a roadside motel but was pleasantly surprised. My room was SPOTLESS and the bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was okay but nothing to write home about, everything worked. Only issue is that the shower didn’t drain all the way without completely taking out the stopper and was a little cramped with few places to put products. It was also a bit noisy but that’s not 100% the hotels fault but more on the guests when I was there. Overall a decent hotel. I would consider staying again if passing through (but I doubt I will be in Springfield anytime soon, ain’t nothing to do there, almost any other city in central IL is better)
Absolutely the most cleanest room I’ve stayed. We travel by road 2-3 times a year and I’ve stayed at several hotels, none as clean as this place. Cleanliness is my number one priority at a hotel, this place meets every little detail, i.e. carpet, towels, bathroom, sheets, etc. Staff is nice, lobby is above average, but did I mention this place is CLEAN!!!
We have a hidden gem here. Great staff and clean rooms. Pool looked great, I did not go into the pool, but the people there appeared to be having fun. Internet worked well and the breakfast was fantastic!!!
This place absolutely blew my expectations out of the water. First of all, it looks like a large Bed and Breakfast. It was very clean on the outside. Upon walking in, the lobby was also extremely clean and had seats to wait in and small containers of water for guests. I was immediately greeted by staff and asked how I could be helped. The pool is heated and bigger than most indoor hotel pools. Once I checked in and went to my room, I was again blown away by the cleanliness. My jacuzzi tub was spotless as well as the rest of the room. It was WELL worth the money, and if I ever need to stay in Springfield again, Northfield Inn will be my first choice
Great hotel very home from home A welcoming log fire in the living room, a glass of wine , cheese and biscuits supplied by the lovely May (or Mai ) she was so helpful and friendly as were any staff we came into contact with 😊 places of interest all within walking distance.
The property is a renovated turn-of-the-century elegant apartment building. It has been artfully converted into a multi-unit B&B with many comforts added. The staff is friendly and accommodating, it is located right in the middle of Springfield's historic district, and the breakfast is home-cooked. What's not to love?
Loved our stay here. Beautiful historic room, great breakfast and very friendly staff. Only minor negative was being near a trainline you can hear the train passing during the night. Overall would highly recommend.
Such a beautiful, historic place to spend a weekend. My husband and I spent our anniversary here and we were pleasantly surprised. We've always been chain hotel people, so this was a bit of a leap for us. I'm glad we took the leap. Beautiful interior in the main building. Lovely woodwork. Our room was actually a suite, separate from the main building, with a sleeping area, sitting room, private bathroom and jacuzzi. We also had two covered porches, both with beautiful views of the grounds. Delicious hot breakfast available, wine and cheese hour...If we stayed in Springfield again, I would stay here again.
This place was so nice to stay at. The lady at the front desk was very welcoming and showed us around the property. The pictures for this place do not do it justice. Each room is much bigger and cozier that they look. No complaints! 14/10 ?????
Such a cool old building that has been restored! You get fresh baked cookies at check in. Rooms are decent size...the suites are huge!Complimentary wine and cheese each night from 5-7. Very close to downtown and free off street parking.
Have stayed twice and will stay again. Very nice stay with nice extras such as the cookies every evening. Friendly greeting at the door and helpful staff. Would recommend staying in the Inn itself instead of the Bell House.
We stayed here from April 12-14, 2023 and Skylar, the front desk assistant was so kind and helpful, we wanted to do a review! Everyone there was very nice and professional, and we highly recommend the Inn At 835 Boutique Hotel! The building is gorgeous and is a lot of work to maintain as it is so old. We enjoyed our stay and appreciate the rich history of the place. Thanks again, Skylar, and everyone else on the staff who worked hard to make our stay so enjoyable!
Staying at Inn at 835 was a great experience. The building is authentic and interesting. The rooms were beautiful, clean, and comfortable. I really enjoyed the friendly staff, warm cookies on the door at night, and the delicious hot breakfast in the morning. The location is awesome for visiting Springfield as the downtown is walkable from the hotel. Definitely would recommend staying here.
Update: Came back to this location with the rest of the family. As mentioned 2 months ago by someone else that they massively downgrades the quality of the breakfast. When I went here last year they had different breakfast options everyday. Instead they had the same breakfast selections everyday. Kinda disappointing.
Great Hotel, great history, and great location. Hospitality and staff were amazing! I could walk to about everything Lincoln related.
If you believe in the Paranormal this is the definitely a place to stay!! Had some really cool experiences like lights flickering, hearing a woman's voice say hello to me when nobody is around and seeing/feeling things when I was the only one around. We had stayed here in the past and loved it, so we decided to stay again for a recent trip. The hotel was the same except that they have massively downgraded breakfast. When we stayed last, we had a freshly made quiche, sausage, potatoes, and yogurt parfait. The breakfast experience was honestly the main reason we booked the hotel this time around and something we had looked forward too. This time, there was no hot food, just a table with cereal, yogurt, and a small tray of muffins. It was a huge disappointment. Not sure if we would stay here again.
I was throughly impressed! This place puts other establishments to shame. Wonderful staff (Megan), great accommodations and clean! Yes, clean. Felt like home. My room had a shared porch to relax on that had plenty of shade. Bed was comfortable and room was quiet, even with a busy train track located 2 blocks east. Wasn't able to stay for breakfast, so I can't comment on it. They did have a wine and cheese reception at 5pm, plus cookies later that evening. Plenty of safe off street parking in their own lot. Several eating establishments within easy walking distance.
Such a wonderful, charming place. The staff are amazing and breakfast is delicious (& made fresh just for you)! We spent the weekend in one of their spacious suites bc our daughter was getting married and having her reception in their beautiful ballroom (that was a 5-star experience as well). The bridal party used our suite to get ready that morning and it was perfect! The photographer (amazing Jill Gum), was able to find so many neat places to set up some great shots. We were treated so well the entire weekend (& even had fresh cookies brought to the room each day). We highly recommend. We had an absolutely enchanting weekend!!!
