Verified reviews of Long Beach hotels with hot tub

We are incredibly bitten up by bed bugs, itchy, down about $700 in hotel fees, and currently trying to find another hotel because of bed bugs at The Cove Hotel in Long Beach, CA.
Sometime between 7-9 a.m. this morning, I noticed what I thought was a bug, scurrying across our bedsheets. I saw it moving, and thought it was lint because once I put my phone’s flashlight on it put, it stopped moving. I brushed it off the bed thinking might have been a one-off.
At approx. 10:06 am, I noticed a bug on my boyfriend’s shirt as we were laying in the bed and I told him. We immediately pulled back the sheets and looked in the bed, and found several other bugs of varying sizes!
My boyfriend went down to the lobby to notify the front desk. Ester, the receptionist, offered a delayed refund, which she said could take up to 7 days, and did not offer other solutions or accommodations, or even acknowledged the inconvenience for that matter. She also said we would need to leave and find another hotel because the hotel was at capacity.
My boyfriend wanted to speak to a manager about the incident. And Ester said the hotel manager does not work on the weekends and will only come in the event of an emergency. She said the only way she could speak to the hotel manager is if she called the police because he can’t be contacted on the weekend and he lives over an hour away.
My boyfriend offered to call the police in order to speak to a manager. Ester ended up calling the police because the hotel manager is “only accessible” on the weekends if the police are called.
At approximately 10:45 a.m. this morning, the police officers arrive. Ester repeated what she said to the officers about not being able to call manager unless the police were called.
HOWEVER, Ester, told the police that she TEXTED the manager about the incident and the manager said to call the police before she called them.
Earlier, she told my boyfriend that she couldn’t contact the manager unless the police were called.
At 11:30 am, we get a checkout receipt from Ester, and ask for documentation of notes that she took about the incident. In her notes, she lied and said that we immediately received our refund, which we have not.
We’re currently driving around Long Beach looking for other accommodations.
My only complaint: get better towels! Towels were tiny and thin. What is this, a towel for ants?
The rooms are spacious and even have a living room but the furniture is pretty dated. Don't even get me started on how noisy that bed was, literally cracking with every turn.
The room was clean and it smelled like bleach a little too much but I prefer that to a dirty place.
The burritos at the restaurant are delicious. Fran is wonderful, I gave a 4 star for service just because Fran is a 5 star but the people at the front desk are between a 2 and 3, especially the girl who checked us in.
The pool area is nice but we didn't experience it. They play pretty loud music all day and you can hear it in your room because the walls are thin.
Stayed here before a cruise and was amazed at the quality of the hotel! James working the front desk was beyond helpful and friendly (even when dealing with our giant group of 11, including cranky children). Yaneth, our housekeeper was quick to bring us extra towels and such as needed.
The rooms were incredibly clean and well stocked with toiletries, the pool was clean and had plenty of seating and towels. The bar was quick with drinks and staff was very friendly.
Overall, wonderful experience!

Cons:
Strong perfume scent throughout lobby & first floor as though they have a machine pumping out perfume 24/7. I smelled like the lobby for about an hour after walking through it on my way to my other activities for the day.
Despite calling ahead to confirm that the laundry detergent used on their linens was unscented, the sheets did have a smell to them. All my clothes still smell like the hotel after returning home and being washed multiple times. While we were in the room, both my husband and my throats hurt and our eyes watered. Most likely from scented dryer sheets or fabric softener which clings to fabric and is difficult to remove.
I would REALLY appreciate it if hotels would stop perfuming everything to create a "customer experience." The only experience I want is to be able to stay someplace clean and unscented which does not trigger respiratory issues, asthma, migraines, eczema, etc.
FYI there is a third set of shades hidden behind the first two curtains. I didn't notice it until I asked the front desk staff about it. The control for the A/C unit is a wall thermostat. Both Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites are connected to the same lobby and share common areas like the pool and parking.
Local eateries within walking distance and very walkable area.
Visited outdoor pool and spa, but spa running cold, no warmth.
I submitted a firm online to state our unhappiness to Hilton. They sent an auto respond that they will investigate and get us a respond on 3 days. Here we are a week later and nothing.
Do yourself a favor and stay across the street at the Marriott.
Staff is great and the area is one of the best to be in but it being safe and having some sort of comfort knowing you are staying at a huge chain hotel but they don’t even have cameras or any security so beware. They do not prove match as well so even if you screenshot Priceline they just auto send an email denying your claim without any help.
