Classy and safe neighbourhood. The ultimate reason why we chose was due to the neighbourhood which is very safe with police patrol and high net worth residents. Note it is Difficult to get to without a vehicle. Steep hills and a bit of walk from the shops.Pride in how the hotel maintains its premises and staff are hardworking and polite. They provide some extra services like valet services and chauffeur (subject to availability). I appreciate the thought how they have managed to make an old hotel appealing.I dont think Hotel Drisco merits its 4.9. I prefer warmer hotels so I felt out of place at times. Hotel is more classy than friendly vibe. Reception could have been warmer to all guests. I felt besides Victor, other receptionists were a bit standoffish. Generally felt not a hotel for international tourists but more local clientele and regulars.I was excited about breakfast but it was disappointing and not very nice. I was also excited about the wine evening reception but it wasn’t that good. Both are at the basement so the atmosphere was quite stuffy.Really comfortable beds and pillows and careful thought in how to use the right spaces to create comfort. The warm toilet tiles were a nice touch. My drop in stars is mostly due to the fact that my thermostat was not working for all 3 nights. They did promptly provided a portable plastic radiator. They promised to fix it but didn’t but we didn’t want to make a fuss. For the first time in the trip, we had the worst sleepless nights in this particular hotel. Probably due to the thermostat not working and also we faced a rather creepy abandoned building. Woke up and tossed and turned for a bit every night. Nights felt uneasy and we woke up mostly tired. My last complaint is that even after 5 days I have not received my deposit placed on my debit card for hotel incidentals. It still states pending on my debit card so not sure why the hotel has not cancelled or reverted the deposit. Usually for other hotels, it takes a day or the most 3 days.Update:I want to give credit to hotel particularly to Victor for checking about the deposit. He is professional and responsible. Even then, it took one month before my deposit was returned to me. They also wanted to give credit for the inconveniences during the stay but I doubt we would return.

Amazing small boutique hotel that exceeded our expectations in every way. Fantastic complimentary breakfast and evening wine receptions, as well as nightly turn-down. Fabulous views from Pacific Heights in a beautiful neighborhood. Highly recommended!

Such a nice spot. Take a stroll around the “billionaire row.” We were there there on a Saturday and Sunday and breakfast and happy hour wine, beer and appetizers was included. It looks like the rooms have recently been updated. I think some of the rooms have beautiful views but we were on the bottom floor. There was a pretty big gap under our door but they provide a draft stopper and we understood that this is a very old building and these quirks are part of the charm.

Classy, comfortable hotel with superb staff. Wine reception was the perfect way to end our day. All wines were excellent and thehor d'oeuvres we delicious. Breakfast offerings were lovely. Forgot my phone charger in my room when I checked out - called the hotel and they had it for me when I picked up my luggage to head to the airport.Definitely would stay here again!!!

Great location in the beautiful neighborhood of Pacific Heights and centrally located to many great spots in the city. The rooms are standard with some nice touches and amenities. Unfortunately, this is all you are paying for. The front desk staff was terrible and did not make us feel welcomed at all. After staying three nights, we didn't even receive a thank you for staying with us. There are much better options in the city that offer a more inviting experience. Sadly, we will not be returning.

Incredible place to stay! Old school ambiance and impeccable service with all the amenities and comforts anyone could ever want! The food and wine reception are incredible! Glen was a great host with Mina at the front! Ben was excellent at helping with luggage, too! A must stay! We're looking forward to coming back again!

It was an absolute treat staying at the Drisco. Despite a little scaffolding set up outside the place for painting and repairs, the staff was accommodating and on top of their game. The Drisco excels in the details: heated towels on our arrival, a pillow menu, and even a little gift bag on our departure. Even the continental breakfast and wine happy hours were excellent. The Drisco is a quaint old hotel, set in a quiet neighborhood with excellent views of the city and bay. Just a quick walk from the Presidio as well.

This hotel is just perfectly elegant and comfortable and the service impeccable! The breakfast and wine reception are worth the price of the hotel. The location is wonderful and the guest rooms are kept so clean. The little amenities like fresh water, ice and evening cookies are icing on the cake!

I probably would not stay again as I think there are other options available for the price paid. The major drawbacks were the really loud toilet flushing system, which woke either me and my partner up at night when we went to the bathroom. It’s similar to those vacuum sounds you hear in the airplane toilets. The room was also too small, not much space to open the luggage and the lighting was too dim. Was also disappointed with the $29 early check in fee. I thought that could have been waived off.Front desk however was nice and friendly.Surroundings were by and large safe, except the occasional homeless opposite the road next to the 7-11. Just be careful not to wander off west of the hotel too much, as the area gets a bit gritty thereafter.

Great hotel, great service, great location. I have stayed at hotel emblem twice and I plan to be back next time I’m in San Francisco. I love the funky interior design; it makes you feel like you’re staying at a luxury social club. It also gives off a speakeasy vibe. I appreciate that the hotel has a quirky sense of humor which is evident through the signage and art displayed around the hotel. And the hotel smells great, I think they have their own signature scent. As far as the basics, the hotel is clean and quiet, and the staff are friendly.

Nice hotel with very friendly and helpful staff.Convenient location in Union Square with plenty of good restaurants just a couple of minutes' walk away. Our room was comfortable and clean, although a little cramped and made rather dark by the window overlooking high brick walls.Lovely bathroom with a great shower.
Absolutely loved my stay at this super cool hotel. The desk staff was always so friendly. There is a great lounge with a bar and snacks; a perfect spot to unwind after a day of sightseeing. The room was a good size and clean. Great shower pressure and nice hot water. Cool amenities like record players brought to your room.

Everything about this hotel is great. First, the location is right around the corner from the heart of Union Square. The staff here is unbelievable and they really go above and beyond to ensure your comfort. They offer some of the best and most unique amenities I have ever seen in a hotel. I also absolutely love the beatnik and book theme going on. Overall I would totally recommend this hotel to anyone coming to SF. Thanks for the best stay!

FAQs about San Francisco boutique hotels

What is the typical price range for boutique hotels in San Francisco?

The price range for boutique hotels in San Francisco varies, with options generally starting from around $200 to $500 per night. Factors affecting the price include location, design, and the range of amenities offered. Properties in prime areas like Union Square, Fisherman’s Wharf, or near the Golden Gate Bridge tend to be on the higher end. However, there are more budget-friendly boutique options, especially if you’re willing to stay in neighborhoods slightly off the beaten path, which still offer the unique charm and personalized service boutique hotels are known for.

When is the best time to visit San Francisco for a boutique hotel stay?

The best time to visit San Francisco for a boutique hotel experience is during the spring (April to June) and fall (September to November). These months offer mild weather, fewer crowds, and more enjoyable exploration of the city. While summer is a popular travel time, it often brings cooler, foggy weather and higher prices. Visiting in the shoulder seasons allows you to take advantage of better hotel rates and a more relaxed atmosphere, ideal for enjoying the unique character of boutique accommodations.

Are boutique hotels in San Francisco affordable during popular events and festivals?

Prices for boutique hotels in San Francisco can rise during popular events and festivals like Pride, the Chinese New Year Parade, or major conferences. However, more affordable options are available with early booking. Consider staying in neighborhoods like the Mission or Hayes Valley for better rates, even during busy times. Some hotels may offer special deals or packages that include additional amenities, such as dining discounts or tickets to local attractions, which can add value to your stay during these peak periods.
