The hotel has cute furniture and a nice garden and rooftop area. I was so jet lagged and really enjoyed just hanging out in the hotel and resting.
It’s walking distance from the BART train and it’s easy to take trams or buses to many parts of town from here.
5 stars!
Our first visit was delightful although somewhat challenging because of problems with a hot water heater that was being installed (no hot water in our room). The staff did everything they could to make us comfortable. The room was charming and spacious. We were amazed at the attention to every aspects of the exquisite and tasteful decor. Also it is one of the cleanest hotels we've ever been in, which is no small feat given the number of objects, chandlers, carved wooden details, etc. - not a bit of dust anywhere! Then there's the breakfast spread - varied and delicious.
Marty, the Inn keeper, regretted the hot water problems and graciously gifted us with a complimentary night at our convenience. He is the kind of person one wants as a long time friend - he is charming, a great story teller, soaked in the history of the hotel and the area, and devoted to this wonderful Inn.
We returned in January and were treated with generosity and graciousness beyond our expectations. Evelyn and Lee helped with luggage, let us choose our room and basically took exceptional care of us from the moment we arrived.
We can't recommend Inn San Francisco highly enough. It's an exquisite place with an exceptional staff.
Marty greeted us on arrival and exceptionally kind, fun to talk to, and more than accommodating. He took the time to show us around and make us feel genuinely welcomed and completely comfortable.
We returned a week later for a second stay before our long haul flight, and met Liza. She was also extraordinarily kind and welcoming. The quality of service was outstanding throughout. The property was amazing. The breakfast and atmosphere created was second to none.
This was exactly the San Francisco experience we dreamed of of. The area is fabulous, with incredible restaurants and street art San Francisco-ness to explore all around.
We would come back to San Francisco all the way from New Zealand again just to stay at the Inn! This place has personality, and it was a great match for us. Thank you to our wonderful hosts.
They make you feel very welcome and are very helpful. The building itself has an amazing history. The living areas on the main floor serve as the location of the complimentary breakfast buffet loaded with beautiful antiques everywhere. This was one of the nicest breakfast buffets I've ever experienced. Hot coffee, teas, hot chocolate and hot apple cider, many protein choices if you are Keto, including hard boiled eggs, spinach quiches, rolled ham and salami and cheeses, cold cereal, choices of pastries and bagels and toast with butter and jam, milk and OJ, and an amazing selection of cut up fresh fruit, almost every fruit you can imagine. Breakfast is served in glass bowls and real silverware and is just laid out very elegantly. Lobby also has an incredible collection of photography books of the city of San Francisco dating back to before the earthquake. There is also a very nice quiet garden area in the back with tables and chairs to sit and have breakfast as well. There is a wonderful hot tub in the garden that is kept nice and hot and full and clean. No lukewarm tubs here. Rooms have high ceilings and are decorated in beautiful antiques. They have a nice size refrigerator, claw foot tub and shower. Robes and lanterns provided for the hot tub. Cotton quilts with a layering of cotton sheets and a thin blanket for bedspreads. Beds and pillows are very comfortable, better than 99% of all hotel beds, they are soft and yet firm. Mattress seemed new with no divots in it. And of course, you can't beat the weather in San Francisco. Cool nights where sleeping with the windows open, which you can do, is a dream. Lastly, you can go to the roof where there is 360 degree breathtaking views of the city. There are tables and chairs up there to have some wine and snacks. This is a gem of a find and the owner Marty is an absolute joy to talk to and can also be a great trip advisor.
Craig used the best local ingredients (many coming from their garden) and the most sublime cuts, including a succulent black cod from Fort Bragg & 30 day aged wagyu beef (as well as fish brought in from Tsukiji market!). Presentations and descriptions were beyond artful, with beautiful, locally sourced ceramics holding each creation. It’s a feast for the senses and we were honored to experience it.
Service is top notch and the tucked-in redwoods vibe amidst some of Sonoma county’s finest vineyards makes for a quiet luxury meets The Shire vibe.
Cons: Our room was close to the busy street and you could hear the traffic when we didn't have the fan on. We booked dinner at the fine dining restaurant and were disappointed with the
portion sizes, especially for the amount of money we paid. Be aware when you check in that you will be charged $35/day for housekeeping/guest services tips. You can opt out, but we felt that we wouldn't have gotten the same service if we did. We felt it should've been included in the stay.
Overall, we enjoyed the experience and set up of our tours and even booked the car service for the day, which was worth every penny. The grounds are small but beautiful with places to sit every where and lots of fire pits.
The tasting menu is a simple left/right experience where you have some flexibility to adapt it to your preference depending on the vegetarian vs meat/fish mix you prefer.
This let us both have different tasting meals leaving everyone happier.
The wine pairings were great, too. The sommelier we had was more than knowledgeable with perfect descriptions of the pairings and what to pay attention to - without it being over the top.
One of the surprises for me was that the vegetarian options were no worse and sometimes better than the other ones. Quite impressive.
Honestly, this feels more like a Michelin star restaurant than not. Will certainly be coming here again for a special occasion, if we can find a spot.
Finally, the hotel itself is a nice place too. By the pool, they had some s’more ingredients and gas fireplaces. It was a fun way to end the evening.
A true 5/5 experience.
