... There are hundreds of people that said they had the same horrible experience we had... The blue green sales people say all sorts of things that just are not true they promised us a three night stay in a two bedroom cabin only at the last minute... once we had driven across the country... to try and change it ... I spent over three hours in phone calls before calling it quits ... They promised a refund but that too was a mess... I'll update if/ when it resolves
By 7am we were packed and ready to leave, but we had the "free" breakast coupon so we ate before checking out. Once in the breakfast room we noticed a sign that says $24.00 per person. We were SHOCKED. It was the exact same breakfast you get at other hotels included in your stay! The food was already cold & not anything you would pay $24.00 a person for.
After breakfast we checked out. Upon check out we again spoke with the ladies at the front desk about the mold in the tub, it not shutting off all night & the broken toilet. The manager on duty joined the conversation & advised she would issue us a refund for $140.00. We stated that was very nice of her, thanked her for her time & left.
The following day we noticed our bank account had been charged $117.60 from the hotel. I called and they advised it was for breakfast, which was supposed to be free, a roll away bed that no one told us we had to pay for, and an additional resort fee that was supposed to have already been included in the amount shown on our receipt we have from Expedia. The following day the $140.00, from the manager, was deposited to our account only to be reversed back out the same day that I called to question them on the $117.60 worth of extra charges. I called again today and the issues still are not being resolved. Needless to say I will never recommend staying here to anyone, which is very unfortunate considering how beautiful they made it.
We have stayed at Cypress several times over the years and one of the things that has always impressed us at any J. Morris property is the level of service and great attitudes and friendliness of the staff. For some reason, at Cypress we have noticed the past couple times, it has done a 180.
First of all, I never liked that this hotel requires a $20 parking fee that is not disclosed in the reservation. I understand it is Memphis and security is necessary, but it should be included or disclosed in the reservation.
Although the experience started in the lobby, our experience at the bar and in the restaurant were surprising. The hostess station for some reason seemed confused and unsure of how to handle incoming guests. The bartenders although working hard gave off a vibe that they did not want to be there. The Old Fashions, I believe are $18 and are served with maraschino cherries which I guess can be debated, but the biggest takeaway was the Rest. Manager. She walked around the restaurant all night. Our reservation was 10 minutes late or so, no big deal - but every time she walked directly by us she avoided any interaction. Never once smiled, greeted a customer and did not make us comfortable as guests. Our waitress did a great job, but some of my ribs were hot and some were cold. In the morning walking around for coffee even the cleaning staff were unfriendly.
I love staying in the cabins and the entire experience at Cypress. But, we really did feel like the staff although not rude, definitely did not make us feel welcome. I hope this trend can be turned around.
If you made it all the way through that - I want you to know this lodge is truly an amazing experience. But, you will be paying several hundred a night for a room and dinner is not cheap. Nothing is cheap. But, there is a reason J. Morris' properties can charge a lot - the experience. So, I hope that experience returns to where it used to be and matches the other Bass Pro Properties once again.
The building is cool, great views inside and out. Hallways were pungent and stinky, staff apologized, but didn’t do or say anything to help.
My only negatives are that the mattress was a little soft for our liking. But it may not be an issue to others. I have a bad back, so I prefer very firm. Also, I thought Walburgers was pricey for what you got. Service was great, but they were out of a lot of stuff leaving my stuck with the mac and cheese which was cold and sticky by the time I got it. My husband liked his chicken sandwich, but it was small for $17 and really should have included fries. All in all I would definitely stay here again, just eat somewhere else.
Next we find out that our room was never prepared and was in fact given to someone else who had no reservation. The lady helping us was about to break down and the other ladies at the desk didn't really lift a finger to help her get the situation straight. After over an hour, she got us into another room which was not an ADA room. This made the situation even worse for us but we dealt with it since it was only one night. We had reserved the ADA room several months ago so that part was even more salt into the wound.
An hour later after we went up to the room, there was a knock on the door and another family outside trying to get into the room. Apparently they had reserved that room and got bumped to put us into that room. When I called the front desk to let them know, I was told, that "it happens all the time". The room was okay, but the teenagers making loud noises to echo really put even more of a dampener on the experience.
My wife received a text message asking for a rating of the experience and she replied with a 2 or 3 rating. To this there was no reply. Later she got an email asking the same thing. She replied the same and this time we received a call from Rachel Blackwell, the operations manager. My wife was too upset to speak at this point about it and I talked with Ms. Blackwell. When I told her that the entire experience was horrible and why, she did offer to refund our money. I got off the phone with a feeling that she didn't really care. I was refunded money over a week later, but not the dollar amount I originally paid. I was shorted $200. I have tried SEVERAL times and left SEVERAL messages to get this resolved but nobody will respond. I guess they feel they've done enough even though they said they would refund ALL of my money.
Overall, a great looking place but WAY too overpriced from the rooms to the drink machines that charge $99.95 for a 12oz can of soda, to mismanaging reservations, to the POOR staff managing the place!
Service was great!
A bit of a ways away from the downtown area but walkable if it's a nicer day.
There is also a shuttle option via the hotel app that works similar to uber that picks you up and drops you off within 3 miles of the resort between 9am and 9pm.
The room was really nice and cozy. My only complaint is that there was only one elevator that worked.
Rooms were laid out well and very nice. The bathroom was a rain fall shower head and big garden tub. Free bottled water and a couple of snacks.
The biggest complaint I would have is that rooms were dirty, in my opinion. Lots of dust around the wall trimmings and the bathroom surfaces were dusty as well. For the money we spent, it should be sparkling clean to me. The pillows also weren't good, but the bed was comfortable.
The elevator going to the top 300 feet or 28 stories was a bonus. Beautiful views, and we all loved that. Real nice restaurant at the top that are not really expensive and have good food.
If I went back I wouldn't stay here but I would visit the restaurants and elevator.
We paid around $347.00 per night for our room.
Will definitely be back!
A+++++
Also the plant in the lobby 😍
