This is a beautiful hotel very historic and well maintained overall. The paper blinds in our room were filthy and in the barhroom not sure if it was a a stain or mold. There was no poster on the back of the door with evacuation information. The security is very lax. They use residential grade Schlage C type locks on all their doors. Which the keys are easily copied at any place with a key machine. The exterior locks were not working properly as I used a thumb turn to exit the building, and could not relock the door even with the key. The room did not have any way to secure the door from the inside to keep someone that may have copied the key out. Plus you had to use the thumb turn rather than using door leaver to unlock the door which is a safety concern. The room I was in had a nonfunctioning safe with a sign stating that fact. The doorway to the room was wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair. Finding a ramp into the building was difficult to locate and the elevator was out of order during this visit. The book stated there is an alarm clock, looked all over and could not find it.
First time staying but will not be our last. Great and quiet section of town. Cobblestone streets and old gas lamp streetlights. The buildings are reminiscent of The French Quarter with the balconies and terraces. Check in was smooth and friendly. Thanks Lily! Room was spacious, comfortable and quiet. Oh, and a little haunted but that's another story. Great shower head and spa tub. And the bath towels! Huge and 100 cotton. Just class. We received coupons 2 free drinks at the bistro across the street and also a card for breakfast for only 3 bucks at the same bistro. Normal price was 15 so got 10 dollars of free beer (The food was fantastic but that's for another review) and saved 24 dollars the next morning on breakfast. That's 34 dollars in food and bev, making the cost of our room under 100 bucks! We travel down here once a year and without a doubt we will stay here again. Oh, and checkout was a breeze. Thanks Ashley for taking the time to tell us the history of the buildings and that we weren't crazy for hearing mysterious sounds.
While I love how close this is to downtown and plenty of things to do and see, at night it is very noisy. The room was clean and comfortable, and lovely! The staff were wonderful! But it is very close to a busy highway, and we could hear trains and 18 wheelers all night. Other than hearing the traffic, we really enjoyed our stay here and plan on coming back with our kids.
Super cozy set of buildings, best bed I’ve ever slept, normal size towels (instead of tiny hotel ones), very safe area with plenty of street parking and about 10-15 minutes walking to downtown. The smell in the room was SO great, whatever that was. Very clean all around and has a couple balconies for everybody’s access. They offer a complementary breakfast at their bistro right across the street for $3 each person or if you want to order something else from the menu there is a $5 discount. Food was tasty! Blood Mary tho barely seemed to have any alcohol.
This place is amazing! You can really tell a lot of love was poured in to the details. We stayed in the Margaret last night and it was spectacular. We almost canceled because the photos online do not match up consecutively with Expedia. Do not be discouraged from some of the images because it's a beautiful room. I will also add that the towels and beds are heaven 👏
If you had asked me to rate Fort Conde Inn at the end of our wedding, this would have been a five-star review. If you asked me the day after, it would have been 3, and 2 days after that,it became a 1.
The general staff there is very friendly and eager to help. The Wedding itself was great. The venue is beautiful, and the food is very good.
To keep this as short as possible I won’t go over every tiny issue, since they all come back to one thing.
They will promise you pretty much anything in reason and repeat eagerly that they “can take care of it,” and to “leave it to them.” Unfortunately, because of what seems like poor communication between the staff, and perhaps a bit of over-promising, inevitably things will slip through the cracks and won’t get done (For us it was the repeated assurances that they would pack up our leftovers... the food is good, but you definitely pay for it).
At first, we got general apologies from the staff that was working when we found out they had “thrown out,” (or in my many years of experience in the food industry; boxed up and took home) our leftovers. But, since neither of the two women that planned this wedding with us from the beginning (the General Manager and Wedding Co-Ordinator), and who had actually been the ones that made these promises repeatedly were there, we got no REAL apology.
We emailed David, the Owner, to let him know what happened and how we felt. And in response, we got NO apology, just an email calling us liars and accusing US of taking advantage of THEM and THEIR GENEROSITY. I sh!t you not. You spend 10’s of Thousands of Dollars to be told that you shouldn’t complain about what they DIDN’T do, because everything else they promised was them being generous, so you should basically SIT DOWN and EAT IT, if you have a legitimate complaint.
In the end, I wouldn’t tell you to not get married here. The wedding itself was great, but I would say GET EVERYTHING you agree on, and I mean EVERYTHING in writing, SO, when that inevitable thing doesn’t get taken care of, YOU don’t have to sit there and read an email from the Owner calling YOU a LIAR with $20,000 of YOUR money in HIS pocket.
PS (There is a ‘discount’ you get for guaranteeing to book out 25 of their overpriced rooms. That discount gets paid back pretty quickly when you find out they charge that same amount to turn the string lights above the street on at night. You know... the lights that you’ll 100% NEED if you want your wedding guests to be able to see during the OUTSIDE RECEPTION.)
Amazing overnight stay on our cross country trip from Florida to California right off I10. Charming, historic exquisite from the gas street lights to the complimentary drinks, delicious breakfast and spotless relaxing soaking tub.
This was a cool place to stay. We did not get to be in one of the historical rooms as we needed the one with 2 queen beds but it was nice and the bathroom was very clean. The super sized thick towels were wonderful and the huge shower head was AH-MAZING. My husband really enjoyed the breakfast with fruit, bagels and some light quiche. The service was excellent and when our tv wouldn’t work they gave us a partial refund. We would stay here again!
Everything was awesome. We paid for a smaller room. It was lovely, but the ac wasn't blowing as cool as we would love it, so we got upgraded to The Margaret. I absolutely enjoyed this vintage feel, and OMG, the tub in The Margaret was EVERYTHING!!!🥰
The courtyard was just right to sit and enjoy my hubby, and the $3 continental breakfast that came with the stay was delicious and fulfilling!!!!
Great location, room together with attached bathroom was spotless and spacious. Comfy bed with very clean sheets and good quality towels. High ceiling and old charm decor created a very nice relaxing atmosphere. During hot August days the air conditioned temperature in the room was keeping us cool and very comfortable. Would definitely stay there again.
Very nice and surprisingly quiet ,I will take that any time in a hotel . breakfast was very good at the restaurant across the street, nice touch and the service was great.
We had to change venues for a family gathering in Mobile a week before the event. Melissa, Taylor and the rest of the team were extremely accommodating and were able to host us despite having other events going on. The food was amazing and our accommodations were comfortable and spotless. It is hot in July on Mobile and the AC handled the high temps with no issue. Thank you Fort Conde for helping make a special menu!
Very nice place to stay before cruise. Clean & neat & breakfast included. Plus free parking for entirety of cruise. Just 2 blocks from Dock. Shuttle service to & from cruise conveniently to your vehicle.
Rooms are beautiful. Area feels safe. Employees are helpful and friendly. Suggest bringing your own pillow if you're picky and bath soap. Pillows are terrible, and soap/lotion doesn't smell the greatest. But overall, a definite 5 star.
What a great place! It’s a cool area, like a little oasis of brick streets and historic buildings. The area is its own compartmentalized section away from the riffraff by the convention center, but super close to everything at the same time. Highly recommend compared to traditional hotels. Staff was friendly and shared some interesting stories of the hotel’s history.
I absolutely love this inn! It gives you that historical Mobile Alabama feel. The rooms are beautiful. I love the balconies and the bistro below. Excellent get away from the everyday activity. You have so many activities and restaurants within walking distance. Love it!
Our visit broke my heart!! This used to be my favorite hotel ever!! We spent our honeymoon here and had came back to celebrate again 8 years later- it was so awful it was comical! We came in from the beach hot and tired. It was next to impossible to get the shower to work, the toilet would not flush, tv would not turn on but worse was the a/c did not work on a 100 degree day! Bolted out of there in the middle of the night!! So embarrassed that I had recommended it to so many people!! Gone are the sweet personal things they used to do for their guests which is fine but supply the bare minimum!!!
Very nice stays at the Fort Conde Inn. We stopped overnight to and from a drive from Texas to Florida. Kristi (sp?) greeted us each time and was lovely to work with. The rooms have an old southern charm, and a touch of luxury. Their bistro is excellent for breakfast or brunch, but too pricey for dinner. The location is kind of isolated, but we only stayed overnight and didn't explore much. Overall, I would definitely recommend it.
Our stay was wonderful. This place is not only very nice, clean, and comfy but also conveniently located. It's only a short walk to downtown, and if you don't feel like leaving the hotel for food, they have a bistro located right across the street. The front desk girl was nice. My only complaints are minor: 1. I like a room with a full-length mirror (this particular room only had two small mirrors that weren't very well lit as we were trying to get ready to go out) and 2. We couldn't figure out how to use the TV despite the directions they left. Other than that, I highly recommend staying here, and should we ever be in the area again, we'll definitely be back.!
A beautiful, charming, historic hotel. Great location that’s within walking distance of downtown attractions. Free parking. Safe, quiet area. Room was spotlessly clean and bed was super comfortable. Breakfast is included at cafe across the street. My only complaint is the receptionist at check in was not very friendly and just did the bare minimum.
I got married here this spring. Taylor, the event coordinator, is a joy to work with, as are all of the hospitality and restaurant staff members. Highest praise to them all. The location itself is also perfect - removed from downtown so that you'd never know the bar and music scene is a walkable 2-3 blocks away. I love this place!
Choose this one! It’s even more lovely than the pictures. Unique and beautiful touches, sweet staff, stunning decor, high ceilings, cozy bed. Most hotels suffer from homogeneity… this one is nothing like the rest!
Very friendly staff and clean rooms. Only complaint would be that it fairly close to train tracks and the trains blow there horns loudly. Great location for walking to downtown and for all Mardi Gras festivities.
We spent the night at Fort Conde Inn while down in Mobile for an event the next day. The stay was FABULOUS! The rooms were very clean, everything was clean and quiet and the atmosphere was unbelievable. I felt like I had stepped back in time with the architecture, style of rooms, and cobblestone streets. Absolutely wonderful stay and will definitely stay here again if we come back to Mobile.
Our family had the pleasure of celebrating the wedding of our son and his new bride here at Fort Condé. It was outstanding from checkin to checkout. All of their staff were friendly and very helpful, they know what it takes to pamper their guests! There were guest house available for the wedding party and for larger families along with other rooms for the wedding guests. The decorations and the catered meal were top notch. Our weekend started off with the rehearsal dinner at the Bistro. They were also open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Again, food and staff was outstanding. Our family loved our time there and we’d certainly recommend them to any family wanting a special wedding experience.
If I could have left 0 stars I would. I am not one to leave bad reviews however this one is a must! We used to stay here and it was great however with the new ownership/management it has really gone down hill. The door to the fitness room was broke, hair balls in the elevator, very funky smell throughout the hotel. We checked out immediately and was never refunded. Manager lied and said we would once we contacted booking.com however that never happened. The front desk was very unprofessional including the manager at the time of check in. Please do not waste your time or money here.
My stay at this property started with the sales manager, Jennifer, answering all of my questions and concerns prior to my stay. On the day of arrival, Elizabeth made sure my check-in process was seamless. Both Ladies provided excellent customer service that has solidified my decision to make this location my preferred property anytime I come to town. Thank you Ladies.
We chose this hotel through IHG primarily for the convenience of its in-house restaurant and bar. Although recent reviews had mixed feedback, nothing prepared us for the level of disappointment we experienced. The disparity between the online menu and what was actually served was laughable. Kem's Restaurant menu was not an option. The restaurant offered only a handful of choices, and apparently, four months wasn't enough time to update the website. Additionally, the restaurant/bar lacked brown liquor, and when I settled for a different option, the staff had to wash the glass I had just used to make another drink for someone else because it was the only glass available. On a positive note, the food that was served was good, and the staff were top-notch. CJ at check-in provided fantastic customer service. However, the morning breakfast staff could use some training on friendliness. When I walked into the breakfast area, I was immediately asked for my room number—no greeting, no "good morning," no "how are you?" Just "room number." This might be due to an issue in the area, but it was still disappointing. The hotel itself was clean, including the rooms, lobby, and hallways. There appeared to be an outdoor seating area behind the hotel, but it looked like it hadn't been touched in months. Overall, the experience was mediocre at best. I was truly disappointed with the restaurant food options, bar drink choices, and the morning staff in the breakfast area. As someone who stays in hotels an average of 150 days a year, this one was a pure disappointment.
**** Only took two months to reply. ****
Your reply reads like a generic, copy-paste response. The least you could do is actually take a moment to read customer reviews and reply with something that shows genuine attention and care.
Nowhere in my review did I mention anything about the shower, yet your response brings it up—clearly proving it wasn’t written with my feedback in mind.
And the dead giveaway? Quoting, “Please feel free to reach out directly to [Hotel Manager’s Name] at [email/phone].” You didn’t even bother to edit your own canned response.
The BEST Holiday Inn I have ever stayed at. From the parking lot to the room everything is in top top shape. I was super surprised as soon as I entered how clean and neat everything was! This is what you call Southern Hospitality. You can't beat this place anywhere in Hoover/Birmingham area. Don't stay anywhere else but this GEM of a place.
Worst stay of my life. Got to my room…AC won’t cool. Got another room. Barely even blowing. They have so many restrictions on their thermostats that you couldn’t make this room comfortable unless you’ve been an AC technician for 20 years. So after 2 hours, my room is still 75 degrees. This is absurd. But who cares? Nobody because the hotel owners are all in their nice mansions with industrial sized AC units. I hate this world.
I used to enjoy coming to this hotel for the few rooms that had jetted tubs. The tubs were big and always in good working order. Recent renovations have meant the tubs are gone. But not from the website!
I booked a room for the last couple of days, opting on the website for a room with a jetted tub. When I got to the front desk, I was I very surprised to learn there are no longer any rooms with jetted tubs. I was then handed an invoice to sign that had the higher rates for a tub room. So be wary! Also, had I known there was no room with a tub, I could have used points to book a standard room. Pretty frustrating and sleazy that the website is not accurate.
The renovations are ok (big plus is blackout curtains) and the property is near lots of things and is always clean. But without the tubs, there’s no special reason to choose this hotel.
Please do not stay here, I repeat, do not stay here. They are extremely unprofessional. I made a reservation online, but upon arrival, they failed to inform me that the key system was not functioning. After collecting my information and charging me, the staff member informed me that their key system was currently out of order and would be fixed within two hours. Consequently, every time I needed to leave the room, I had to ask for assistance to open the door upon my return. It is now the second day, and the key problem remains unresolved. Furthermore, they are working on something, and the noise is so loud that it is impossible to find the peace and quiet that was promised.
The floor in my room was dirty as HELL! I have stayed at A lot of holiday inn and this location before and it’s never been this dirty ! My kid feet were so dirty . Let it be known , the first room they put me in was worst ! It smelled HORRIBLE . So I went to asked to be changed because it smelled so bad . Now this room has so many stains like pet urine . . I used my points to book this room I guess that’s what you get when you use the points . They give you a trashy room . When I paid cash at the same location i got a nicer room
The location was perfect. They were having some construction at the time so it was a little messy in the lobby. The plan layout looks like it will be beautiful once they are done. The room itself was nice but the mattress was very hard.
Everyone I’ve dealt with here has been fabulous. From check-in to dinner and a drink to check out - they are attentive, glad to see you and are most enjoyable! Special shoutout to Lynn for being such a pleasure. Thanks to you all for your obvious camaraderie and hearts for service!
Came here recently for a ball tournament . Loved the location . Less than 10 minutes from the fields. Clean rooms. Super pleasant staff! Nice laundry area. Ice machine worked and had ice. Would have liked the standard free breakfast which wasn’t offered.
Does not provide complimentary breakfast like the most other hotels (found out after the fact, would have chosen different hotel if I known). Considered paying the $13.95 charge, but found it to be the basic bland hotel food. No thanks. Interior did not look clean.
When we first got into our non-smoking room on Friday, we noticed an overpowering cigarette-smoke smell, especially in the restroom. The TV remote "guide" wasn't working; neither was the microwave oven. The floors were all very stained and in desperate need of cleaning. One of the elevators would shimmy.
The icing on the cake was that we needed fresh sheets on the bed for Sunday night. We asked the housekeeping staff to please take care of this as we left around 9:00am. We also asked them at the front desk to make sure this was taken care of. When we returned around 11:00, the room had not been done, which was understandable. But we mentioned it to housekeeping staff again. Around 1:30, I asked housekeeping for a change of sheets again, explaining that my husband is a heart patient and needed to lie down. About 30 minutes later, my husband went downstairs to the desk; as he passed another room he observed housekeeping staff leaning over on a bed, on his phone. When the staff saw my husband, he straightened up and busied himself. About two minutes after this, staff arrived to service our room. Husband was still downstairs, and asked for a manager. He was told no manager was on duty, but she would be in at 3:00. Hubs to have manager visit with him. At 4:00 hubs went to the front desk again and spoke with manager, who provided excuses for poor service.
Front desk staff never asked if we were enjoying our stay. They barely acknowledged us. We will not be staying at this location again.
Front desk Staff was not overly friendly or welcoming at any point of our stay there...so not impressed at all!! Room was clean and bed was comfy. Housekeeping staff were very friendly towards us so that was nice! Workout room was small but functional. Pool is very small and worthless, so we didn't even go in it during our stay. Breakfast Bar had a little bit of everything, so that was nice. Breakfast Bar Host was really friendly too! One HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT....THE SHOWER! They are huge but during BOTH my husband and my showers which were taken at different times of the day mind you...we both had COLD showers and NOT because we wanted it that way. At times it would barely get to Luke warm water but mostly you got cold water no matter what angle you turn the shower temperature handle. VERY FRUSTRATING to say the least to start the day off like that or end it with that!!! Just for those bad experience reasons we will not be bad or recommend this hotel to others in the future! I work for a hotel chain and these "negatives" would not fly at our hotel at all!!!!
Noisey inside of room.. carts rolling in and out, people closing doors , loud a/c heat unit. Great view of highway. Nice staff, clean lobby, quiet elevator. $10 extra for breakfast..??? Foodie two says, :pretty nice, I'd stay again. Sorry about lack of complimentary breakfast...
Booked online at one rate, got charged another (higher, by +$20 per night). Keycards got cleared twice during visit, very annoying. Pool is small but sufficient for kids, fitness center in good condition and husband loved using it. No way would we pay extra for that breakfast buffet. Very stingy with towels and some of them are in pretty rough condition. Drawer on dresser fell out twice, once on my child’s foot and he was in pain for a while. Rooms on north side get great view of marsh/reservoir. Highly recommend requesting rooms 201/301 if you’re a birder like me. I wish they’d turn the lights off at night that shine directly into the room. Broken ladder at the pool was sketchy as hell.
