When thinking of Dallas, the first things that come to mind are big hats, cowboy culture, and sleek downtown skyscrapers. However, Texas’s third-largest city has a lot more going on beneath the surface.
For me, the real charm of the ‘Big D’ lies in its contrasts. It is a place where a glamorous craft cocktail speakeasy stands next to a hole-in-the-wall dive bar, where celebrity-chef-run dining establishments live side-by-side with taco stands and BBQ counters.
Young adults visiting Dallas will instantly fall in love with the city’s intimate art galleries, juicy briskets, and indie music venues. Let’s see what’s so special about Dallas.

1. Dallas Farmers Market
Table of Contents
Foodies in their 20s and 30s visiting Dallas can spend a few hours at the Dallas Farmers Market. Step inside the 26,000-square-foot food hall to find countless local food vendors from all over Texas. From pasture-raised meat and farm-fresh veggies to cut-to-order artisan cheeses, there is plenty to choose from.
In addition to food, the market is also home to vendors selling handmade crafts, ranging from natural skincare products like beard oils to clothing and home décor. Some of my favorite vendors at the Dallas Market include:
- JuHa Ranch: Locally raised meats
- Brother’s Products: Mediterranean-style artisan foods
- T‑Rex Pickles: Artisanal pickled vegetables
- Pappardelle’s Pasta: Handmade pasta
- D’s Sourdough: Artisan bakery

2. Deep Ellum
A hub of arts, entertainment, and eateries, Deep Ellum is one of the most popular neighborhoods in Dallas among young adults. You will find it just east of downtown Dallas. There are awesome murals, bustling bars, and many venues like the Factory and Trees that host jazz and blues concerts.
For some tasty BBQ in Deep Ellum, go to Terry Black’s or Pecan Lodge. If you prefer pizza, head out to Serious Pizza. Most of the bars, vintage stores, and restaurants here are located along Main Street.
3. Dallas Comedy Club
While you are in Deep Ellum, make sure to catch a stand-up, improv, or sketch comedy performance at the legendary Dallas Comedy Club. I like the intimate setting here, with the stage being so close to the visitors.
In addition to comedy performances by local and nationally recognized comedians, the venue also hosts open-mic nights and karaoke events. They have an outdoor garden patio and a nice bar with TVs for entertainment and a selection of drinks and light meals.

4. Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament
Go back in medieval times with battles, knights, and a one-of-a-kind dinner experience in Dallas. Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament is a lovely venue that puts on a spectacular show with sword fights, skilled performers, and majestic horses. The grand arena itself looks lovely with castle-like decorations and medieval banners.
I like that each section has its own server who delivers meals and drinks. The four-course dinner menu is predetermined, so visitors don’t have to worry about making a selection. After the show, visit the gift shop where you will find everything from flags and shields to swords and Medieval Times T-shirts.

5. Bowl & Barrel
A visit to Bowl & Barrel is an entertaining experience for young adults looking for fun things to do in Dallas. This upscale bowling alley with well-maintained lanes and relaxed vibes is a perfect place to visit in the evenings. It’s a little pricier than your average bowling alley, but totally worth it for the experience.
While most bowling alleys serve only the basic foods and light snacks, Bowl & Barrel offers so much more. I recommend getting their signature Barrel Burger. The drinks list is also impressive, with plenty of cocktails/mocktails and craft beers on tap.

6. Sixth Floor Museum
To learn more about the events surrounding the assassination of President Kennedy back in 1963, purchase a ticket to the Sixth Floor Museum. It goes without saying that this is one of the most famous museums in the city. I was surprised to find that the museum is quite small, but it includes so many artifacts and multimedia presentations that provide information about JFK’s life and assassination.
The exhibits are very descriptive and informational, and there’s a lot of reading involved, which I liked. I’ve also noticed how the Sixth Floor provides context around the assassination and not just the details of the event itself. Tickets are a bit pricy, but worth every dollar spent.

7. Dallas Museum of Art
A visit to the prestigious Dallas Museum of Art ticks all the boxes. The entrance is free of charge, the collection is impressive with over 24,000 works of art, and the architecture of the building itself is simply stunning.
Here, you will find many contemporary masterpieces and ancient artifacts. Highlights include pieces by famous artists like Monet, Pollock, Renoir, and Van Gogh. There is also a nice collection of Latin American, Asian, and African art. It will take you at least 2 hours to stroll through the museum’s expansive galleries.

8. Bishop Arts District
Professional adults searching for some quality retail therapy can pay a visit to the Bishop Arts District in Dallas. This vibrant district is packed with shops and boutiques where visitors can purchase home goods, clothing, antiques, and much more.
Looking for a nice place to sit down for a meal? Bishop Arts District is known for its superb dining scene. For Texas BBQ, go to Lockhart Smokehouse. If you are craving oysters, look no further than Hugo’s Seafood Bar.

9. House of Blues Dallas
For the best live music shows, go to the House of Blues in Dallas. This iconic venue is not just about Blues music, as the name suggests. Expect to see indie, pop, rock, and alternative bands on stage.
The concert hall is amazing, with more than 10 bars and a seating area upstairs. You can also grab something to eat, as the venue offers a Southern-inspired food menu. There is a smaller stage upstairs with a nice setup, too.

10. K1 Speed in Dallas
Wish to test your driving skills while staying in Dallas? Visit K1 Speed, an indoor venue with electric go-kart racing tracks. Young adults seeking high-speed thrills can hop inside one of the small state-of-the-art karts for a memorable racing adventure.
In addition to the racing tracks, the venue also has a lovely lounge area that serves drinks and a space for arcade games.

11. Texas BBQ
Young professionals who wish to sample the local cuisine here in Dallas will be delighted to hear that tasty Texas BBQ can be found on every corner of the city. However, some places are definitely better than others.
Go to Smoky Rose or Terry Black’s to try BBQ delicacies prepared by some of the best pit masters from the US. For a unique Tex-Mex style BBQ, I also recommend going to Hurtado Barbecue.

12. Brewery Tour
Dallas is not just about BBQ; the city is also a popular beer destination with tons of independent breweries. The downtown area and the Design District are probably the best places to go on a brewery tour. Here, you will find industrial-style taprooms with laid-back beer gardens.
What are your favorite breweries in Dallas? Deep Ellum Brewing Company for sure. It is one of the oldest craft beer breweries in the city and serves the best Dallas Blonde. If you are searching for a smaller brewery, I suggest going to Peticolas, which is known for its award-winning ales.

Romantic Things to Do in Dallas for Young Couples
At first glance, Dallas is all about cowboy culture, sports, and BBQ. However, this charming city in Texas has its softer side. Botanical gardens, cute parks, intimate cocktail bars, and romantic hotels with private hot tubs make Dallas a popular destination for young couples. To help you decide where to go, I’ve put together a short list of the best activities for young couples in Dallas.
1. Klyde Warren Park
Wish to experience nature, but don’t want to leave the city center? Spend an hour or two at the Klyde Warren Park. This urban 5.2-acre park connects the Arts District with the Uptown area and is easily reachable via public transportation. There is so much to do here, from playing table tennis and badminton to attending morning yoga classes for couples.
There is also a small stage that hosts concerts in the summer, as well as a few food trucks where you and your partner can grab something to eat. In the evening, the park hosts themed parties such as silent discos and movie nights.

2. The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden
Remember how I told you that Dallas has a softer, romantic side? The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is the perfect example. Located just a short drive from downtown Dallas, this 66-acre botanical garden with horticultural displays and nicely-maintained greenery is a perfect place to enjoy for young couples.
You will notice a few themed gardens, as well as green landscapes adorned with native plants. Check their site for information about events and exhibitions.

3. Sweet Tooth Hotel
Sweet Tooth Hotel is actually not a hotel. It is an immersive art museum and cocktail bar where young couples can visit a few themed “hotel rooms” which are filled with unique art installations. Each room with pictures will set you back around $15 per person.
For example, one room is called the “bakery room” and features sugar cookie sculptures and icing. There is also one room dedicated to Alice in Wonderland, as well as a surreal 1970s-era living room. There is also a bar if you want to get a drink and chill.
4. Cocktail Class at The People’s Last Stand
Couples who wish to learn how to make well-balanced cocktails should definitely head out to The People’s Last Stand. This stylish bar is famed for its cocktail classes, which last for about one hour and 15 minutes.
During the class, you and your partner will learn how to make 2 craft cocktails, from mastering stirring and shaking techniques to learning how to make your own ingredients. Everyone has their own cocktail station, so you’ll be making the cocktails live. People say how the staff is friendly and provides additional tips to elevate your cocktail-making at home!

5. Stay in a Hotel with a Private Spa-Style Hot Tub
For a relaxing experience after a day filled with all kinds of activities, young adults in Dallas can book a hotel room/suite with a private Jacuzzi. What better way to end your day than staying in a nice hotel with a state-of-the-art spa, a picturesque garden courtyard, and a fabulous outdoor rooftop pool?
One of my favorite places to stay in Uptown Dallas is Hotel Crescent Court. Known for its French Renaissance–style décor, the hotel offers a few suites fitted with private spa-style hot tubs. It also has a few awesome on-site dining establishments, ranging from a Japanese restaurant to a cocktail bar that serves light snacks.
