Explore Detroit: Top Spots, Eats, and Hotel Picks
Detroit gets slept on, but the city has actually gone through for the past decade. New restaurants keep opening, and there’s this energy that makes it feel like you’re watching a comeback story in real time. Hotels with private Jacuzzis give you a solid home base while you figure out what the city’s really about.
Attractions Worth Checking Out
- The Detroit Institute of Arts has this Diego Rivera mural that covers an entire room. He spent a year painting it back in 1933, and it’s basically Detroit’s industrial history on four walls. The museum has Van Gogh, Rembrandt, all the heavy hitters. It’s legit one of the best art museums in the country, and people don’t realize it.
- The Motown Museum is in the actual house where Berry Gordy started the whole thing. Studio A is tiny – you stand in the same room where The Supremes and Stevie Wonder recorded, and it’s kind of surreal
- Belle Isle is this whole island park in the middle of the Detroit River. There’s a conservatory with tropical plants, an aquarium, and you can drive or bike around the whole thing. The fountain is pretty famous for photos.
- The Henry Ford Museum is massive and has the craziest collection of American history stuff. Rosa Parks’ actual bus, JFK’s limo, and the chair Lincoln was sitting in at Ford’s Theatre.
Where to Eat or Drink
- Grey Ghost Detroit does really creative food in what used to be a garage. The duck fat fries are ridiculous, and the cocktails are strong.
- The Apparatus Room is in an old firehouse, which automatically makes it cooler. The drinks are craft cocktail level, and the space is gorgeous.
- For classic Detroit stuff, Buddy’s Pizza invented Detroit-style pizza in 1946. The square shape is what makes it different from Chicago deep dish or New York thin.
- Slows Bar BQ wins best barbecue in Detroit basically every year. The burnt ends sell out early on weekends, so get there before two if you want them.
Top Picks for Hotels with Hot Tubs in the Room
- Best for Couples: Hampton Inn & Suites Detroit-Canton has spa tubs in some suites with actual good water pressure. Some hotel Jacuzzis are weak, but these have jets that work.
- Best Value: Best Western Detroit Livonia keeps prices under $90 and still has the in-room hot tubs. Right next to Laurel Park Place Mall and easy highway access off I-275.
- Family-Friendly Luxury: Trumbull and Porter Hotel is in Corktown, which has gotten super trendy. Historic building, modern rooms, Jacuzzi suites available. Good restaurants within walking distance.
Nearby Cities for Jacuzzi Suites
Southfield, Novi, and Livonia are all within 30 minutes and have hotels with in-room hot tubs for cheaper than downtown. If you’re trying to save money but still want that Jacuzzi situation, these spots work fine.
Detroit’s worth actually spending time in, not just driving through on your way somewhere else. Book a Jacuzzi suite, explore the neighborhoods that are coming back, and see what the city has going on.

Kind, helpful and welcoming staff. Clean rooms, we were very happy with our stay here. Would highly recommend!!
Huge bonus !! The breakfast was very nice, hot food and good selection.
Although, from our perspective, the booking experience wasn’t the greatest. We played a lot of phone tag with the primary contact, Vicki, and had to follow-up via email multiple times for a response.
I would say this location may be great to stay at if you’re simply passing through, but I would maybe recommend choosing another location to book a room block if that type of service is needed.
But it's clean and comfortable if you have ear plugs

I booked a room block for our wedding here and it was terrible. People guy better rated by just calling on their own. Many people decided to stay at other hotels (also do not recommend homewood suites right across the way, tan by the same people). We were told they ran a shuttle and would be available for our guests to get back and forth for the reception. The day before we checked in and asked to confirm how late the shuttle ran and they said it would be $450 to run the shuttle. Wendy wouldn’t answer the phone, Melissa wasn’t helpful and the manager on that day (don’t remember her name) started to chuckle when I was trying to explain what was verbally told to us. Wow. So rude, unprofessional and unhelpful. When we did get in our room the mirror had a crack across the whole thing. We requested another room because at that point we didn’t trust that they wouldn’t try to charge us for that too. The bathtub plug also didn’t work, do you had to sit there and hold it while it drained. Awful! Save yourself the heads hassle, don’t stay here and take your loyalty elsewhere. We’ve had great luck with IGH hotels (Holiday Inn Express). Will avoid staying at Hampton in the future.
I also just noticed they charged me more per room than what is stated on my confirmation. Very shady practices!!! 🤬🤬🤬
I booked a reservation in January of 2023, and when I came to check in this past Saturday the front desk guy said they would not honor the price I was given in my reservation due to price increses. It is called a reservation for a reason. I came expecting to pay a certain amount and was told I would be paying more, the guy at the front desk showed no sympathy and did not make any attempt to honor the price I was given when I made my reservations months ago.
I also tried calling the hotel earlier that day, around 10:45, to see about early check-in as I was coming to stay from 2 hours away and needed to get ready for my brother's wedding. The lady at the front desk said nobody checked out yet so nothing is available for early check in. Isn't check out at 11? How is it that not one room is available? When we finally arrived we were able to thankfully use one of my family members room who got there a day early. I was waiting downstairs for our ride and someone else came up to the desk and asked to check in early and she was accomodated right away. After the front desk girl helped her I asked about early check in for myself again and she said nothing was available, even though she just told another girl she could get her checked in. After I walked away I heard the lady behind the desk tell, what I am assuming is a new girl or someone who was coming to relieve her, that she didn't feel good and didn't feel like doing her job. If that was the case, she shouldn't have been working. She was certainly lacking customer service skills and if she didn't feel like doing her job she shouldn't have been working.
I would have gotten better service and paid half of what I did if I would have stayed at a motel or 2 star hotel than what I did with Hampton.
I stay in the jacuzzi suite for sometimes days at a time when I come back. The staff absolutely takes amazing care of me. They do a wonderful job for me! Melissa is a hero for me all the time it seems. Nick nails it it the maintenance on my incessant water needs from my jacuzzi and their pool and jacuzzi As always I’m ever so impressed! Thank you for all you guys do! Well done!
Also, this was the worst made up bed we have ever experienced. The bed was nice and firm, but the top sheet seemed to be a twin sheet which they put on the king bed.
Again I love Hilton hotels and this particular stay was just fine. It’s so rare to have that bad of service I have to share. This manager truly hung up on me when I asked if I could share my point of view as a customer as to why I was upset. Some people are not built for leadership, it’s not a horrible thing, it’s just a fact.
I am greatly disappointed.

FAQs about romantic hot tub hotels in Detroit
Are in-bedroom Jacuzzis common in Detroit hotels?
Yes, they are fairly common in the Detroit area, especially in suburban hotels and newer properties. However, they are much less common in central Detroit, where most hotels place hot tubs in the bathroom rather than directly in the sleeping area.
What is the difference between a bedroom Jacuzzi and a bathroom hot tub?
A bedroom Jacuzzi is installed directly in the sleeping area or in an open-plan suite, creating a more immersive, romantic layout. A bathroom hot tub sits inside a separate bathroom and offers a more traditional setup, even when the hotel markets the space as a Jacuzzi suite.
How can guests tell if a Detroit hotel’s hot tub is actually in the bedroom?
The fastest way is to check room photos, not descriptions. If the tub appears next to the bed, on carpet or open flooring, it is a bedroom Jacuzzi. If it is surrounded by tile, mirrors, or a door frame, it is in the bathroom – even if the room is described as a Jacuzzi suite.
Are bedroom Jacuzzis in Detroit hotels typically found in standard rooms or suites?
In the Detroit area, bedroom Jacuzzis are almost always part of larger suites rather than standard rooms. These layouts are designed for added space and privacy, which is why in-bedroom tubs are rarely found in entry-level accommodations.
