Chicago can get very cold in winter, but it’s still a great city to visit year-round. Summer has festivals basically every weekend, and the lake is right there. Winter has the holiday markets and ice skating, and honestly, it’s kind of beautiful when it snows, even if you’re freezing. Getting a hotel with a Jacuzzi in the room is clutch because after walking around in that wind all day, you need somewhere warm to recover.

Attractions Worth Checking Out

The Art Institute of Chicago has American Gothic (the farmer with the pitchfork painting) and that Sunday afternoon pointillism painting that’s massive. The modern wing is really cool architecture-wise. You could spend like four hours there easily.
Millennium Park has the Bean sculpture that everyone takes photos with. It’s made from welded steel plates and reflects the skyline in trippy ways. Go early in the morning if you don’t want a thousand people in your pictures.
Navy Pier has the touristy stuff – Ferris wheel, restaurants, boat tours. It’s fun though, especially if you’ve got kids. The architecture boat tour that goes down the Chicago River is actually interesting. They explain how the city got built and why the buildings matter.
360 CHICAGO (the observation deck) has this thing called TILT, where the window tilts you out over the street. Don’t do it if you’re scared of heights, seriously.

Where to Eat or Drink

RPM Italian is solid for pasta and has that scene-y vibe where it feels busy and fun.
Lou Malnati’s is the deep-dish place tourists always ask about, and yeah, it’s actually good. The butter crust is what makes it different. Locals eat both deep dish and thin crust, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
The Aviary does cocktails like they’re art installations. Smoke, fancy ice, weird presentations. You need reservations way ahead, and it’s expensive, but it’s an experience.
Girl & the Goat is Stephanie Izard’s restaurant, and it’s really hard to get into. The roasted pig face sounds gross, but it’s legitimately one of the best things on the menu.

This is the best hotel i have stayed in. You get complimentary breakfast, lunch, dinner. The service was great, rooms are large. I also loved the decor in the hallways. Walkable distance from lots of nice restaurants. Overall excellent service.

It’s been a minute since an experience has left me so utterly thrilled to share it. My recent stay at The Langham was not just a visit to a beautiful hotel; it was an immersion in a level of service and hospitality that has completely redefined my expectations. From the moment the polished brass on the revolving door was gracefully pushed for us, to the effortless way a doorman hailed our cab and loaded our luggage back in, every interaction was the benchmark for what true service should be.

Our arrival was a masterclass in thoughtful anticipation. Though we were a bit early for check-in, the front desk had already prepared our access cards, allowing us to immediately ascend to the Club Lounge. It was a subtle, yet powerful, gesture that told us we were not just guests, but truly welcomed. This seamless transition from the chaos of travel to the serene comfort of the lounge was our first taste of what would be a fantastic experience. As promised, we were notified the moment our room was ready and brought back down to complete the check-in process.

Upon opening the door to our room, we were met with a space that was not merely spotless, but impeccably appointed. Every detail had been considered: the mini-bar was fully stocked with a tempting array of treats, the expansive marble bathroom was overflowing with luxurious bath and shower accessories, and the walk-in shower felt like a personal spa. What truly floored me was the hairdryer—a top-of-the-line Chi Advanced Ionic model that produced such incredible results, it has since been ordered to take its rightful place in our own home. Every detail was been picked apart and thought about.

Throughout our stay, we made liberal, and joyful, use of the Club Lounge. It became our sanctuary for everything from an exquisite, leisurely breakfast to a quick, sophisticated bite before dinner, and a perfect place for evening drinks. This experience, I can confidently say, will ruin nearly any other club experience you may have in the future. The sheer volume of delicious offerings is impressive, but it is the attentiveness and grace of the staff that truly sets it apart. Every person working on the club level, especially David, possesses an almost sixth sense for hospitality. David's warmth and exceptional care made us feel right at home.

A prime example of this simple, profound level of attentiveness was a moment I will never forget. I was in the lounge and a fellow guest sneezed twice. Without a word, someone who had been quietly refilling the food station immediately appeared from behind the counter, a box of fresh tissues in hand, offering them to the guest. I was floored. This was not a request, but an act of pure, proactive kindness and thoroughness that was truly a sight to behold. It was in that moment that I knew I had witnessed a hotel operating at the absolute best in its class.

The Langham is more than a hotel; it’s a destination for an unforgettable experience. Worth every minute and every penny.

This hotel is absolutely beautiful. My husband and I were very thrilled with the experience. The front staff was very welcoming and made his birthday stay feel special. The restaurant was very nice and served good food. We spent one night here at the highest floor, view was the best and the room was very big and luxurious. I would highly recommend this 5 stars Michelin Hotel to anyone considering it.

The Langham is an excellent hotel. The location is super convenient! The club floor is one of my favorites. They have a solid food options through out the day, and a robust drink offering for a club level. The view is also great!
This hotel continues to deliver a five star experience and all the staff provided excellent service.

I will note the streaming to the TV actually worked well and they provided a panel to easily attach your own devices if you saw fit.

The hotel was beautiful, clean, and well-managed across almost every department. I had simple questions or needs that were quickly met by housekeeping or engineering, and I was impressed with their speed to get things done.

Turn-down service was pleasant, friendly, and attentive to offer refreshments each night. The room and bathroom was impeccably cared for and furnished with everything you might’ve forgotten and other “nice to have” luxuries.

Regarding the hotel bar: I’m not dropping a star for the whole hotel but expressing disappointment in the majority of the bar staff. My friend and I were very well served by Steven the first night, however during a different visit the bartenders ignored us continually and we were only one of 3 parties at the bar. It took them about 45 minutes just to check on the two of us after our first drink.

Neither the bar nor the restaurant appeared busy that night; it was actually exceptionally quiet, yet the two bartenders slowly paced around without attending to anyone, avoiding eye contact, and didn’t seem to notice how long our glasses were empty.

However, during other bar visits, Steven was incredibly attentive, friendly, and helpful with menu choices when we had the pleasure of sitting in his section.

Don’t let the bar service discourage you from giving it a try or staying at the hotel altogether. The drinks were well crafted and the food was delicious! So just ask for Steven 🙂

Everything here exceeded expectations. Amazing views, great location, and peaceful rooms that you look forward to coming back to.

The best part, though, was the people who work here. They elevated every experience we had with thoughtful details in every aspect of our stay. The club staff especially went above and beyond treating guests like they were special and making a great memory for us.

I stayed here as a "staycation" destination to take advantage of the amenities and being close to downtown locations and everything about the stay was wonderful. Each employee was lovely and great to talk to. The bar had incredible drinks with great presentation. The pool was fantastic even with it being before the renovation they're doing at the moment. The steam rooms and sauna were absolutely perfect. And location wise you're walking distance to the Loop and River North which gets you to some great places. Truly a great time I would love to do it again.

My boyfriend surprised me with this Chicago trip and overall it was one of the best weekends we have ever spent together! The location was perfect, the rooms were spectacular, the service was impeccable and even all the guests were friendly. The decorations for the holidays were very beautiful. You’ll have to get a picture in front of the Christmas tree on the 2nd floor. Being able to text reception for any of your needs was great. They were able to give us a list of brunch spots near by, call for our car, and answer any other questions we had. Amazing restaurant / bar within the hotel as well! The spa looked great, but was very pricey. The pool had pool side service but, maybe because it was the holidays, there were so many kids which wasn’t ideal. However, besides that, your expectations will be exceeded. A great stay for you and your partner! We definitely recommend staying here and wish we would’ve stayed longer!

I've stayed at hundreds of hotels worldwide and have a very good concept of $ to value ratios. The Langham was amongst the best I've ever stayed at. The hotel rooms were big, quiet, well designed, beautifully decorated, and fairly priced for being a luxury hotel. The beds are excellent, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the food is fantastic. And, of course, the location.

I truly look forward to my next visit, which I don't often say about many hotels.

My favourite hotel to stay when in Chicago! Rooms are luxurious and well thought out, service is impeccable, and location is perfect. Great shopping and restaurants near by, lots to do within walking distance. Beautiful hotel, everyone is expectionalmy nice and helpful. Their goal is to please and ensure your stay is memorable. Exceptionally clean. They go above and beyond every time we are there. I make a point to stay every time we are in town!

Exceptional. Everything about the hotel was amazing, the staff is top notch. Jeremy at front door welcomed us right from the start and set the tone. He was exceptional. Jeremy was there on our last day and was also incredible. We started and ended on extremely high notes thanks to him and his service and being so personable with us and that’s the reason we will be back. My only negative feedback would be on our floor a guy was leaving with his dog and his dog was visually aggressive and we had our kid with us. As he approached he let the leash extend and his dog charged and and jumped and bit me. We didn’t complain because it’s not the type of people we are but still sucked. Not the hotels fault, but maybe dogs should have regular leashes or something. Otherwise great stay.

10/17/23 Update: Upon discussing the issues with hotel staff, they changed our room and made the rest of our stay very pleasant. I am not removing the review because the Langham does in fact have some rooms that are soundboxes, and are very loud. If you are a light sleeper, I'd recommend you request a different room up front.

10/14/23: Not for light sleepers! I would have loved to love it. The building is beautiful - the service was good. The rooms were even very nice. The location is great.

But the sleep part was just plain awful. Probably one of the worst nights sleep I’ve ever had in a hotel. It sounds like the walls are paper thin. Paper thin.

The wedding noise above us reverberated around the room and made it impossible to sleep until 1:45am! Beware weekends! If you’re a light sleeper this hotel is not for you. Please don’t make the same mistake I did.

A hotel fundamentally is a place to sleep. The Langham does not provide that, and therefore if I could give it a negative star, I would.

This hotel is absolutely stunning. Room service is great. Location awesome. But what I really came here to brag about is Fidel. I came back from a run after stupidly falling and scraping up my knees. Fidel found ointment, bandages and offered to have ice sent up to my room. I’ve had friends and family be less attentive! What a guy. I hope the langham knows that when I come back to stay here, it will be because of Fidel.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Langham Hotel and I have to say that it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, I was blown away by the stunning beauty and elegance of the hotel.
The staff were incredibly welcoming and went above and beyond to ensure that my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. They were knowledgeable about the hotel's amenities and the surrounding area, and provided excellent recommendations for local restaurants and attractions.
The room itself was spacious and beautifully decorated, with all the amenities one could ask for, including a comfortable bed, a large flat-screen TV, and a luxurious bathroom with high-end toiletries. The attention to detail in the room was impressive, with everything from the artwork on the walls to the linens on the bed being of the highest quality. The Langham's location was also perfect, situated in the heart of the city and within walking distance of many of the city's top attractions.

We stayed at the Langham for our wedding for two nights - one night for my bride to get ready and the second for the night of our wedding. The room was very nice and clean, and the staff was great. They also gave us some complimentary celebration treats.

We had room service the morning after which was great. You also can't beat the location. I'd highly recommend here for all purposes: couples, business trips, etc.

Had a wonderful stay with my family over last weekend. Macy from the reception was very helpful and sweet. In the evening, we got some nice surprise from Henna, the Guest Relations Manager for my mothers early birthday. Hotel was beautiful and clean. Easy access to many popular spots makes this a great choice to stay in Chicago.

Definitely our go-to hotel in Chicago! Great location, safe, comfortable beds, and awesome staff. Most importantly, amazing view of the city and the river from certain rooms/suites which was our preference. Keep in mind that the river view rooms/suites do run out fast so you have to book those ahead of time if you’re interested.

Stunning hotel! From the architecture to the artwork throughout. We stayed in a One Bedroom Suite and the amenities were most certainly luxurious as well. The room was clean, and refreshed each day. The thermostat seemed to default back to low throughout the day, which made the room a bit too cool for my comfort at times.

Kudos to the illustrious Phillipe, Head Concierge. He was an invaluable resource during our stay. Upon arrival, i decided to chat with him briefly to discuss weekend plans for my SO and I. Phillipe is very well-versed and recommended a list of sights and places to visit during our long weekend. My room was not ready by check-in time, so Phillipe provided me with a glass of wine while I waited and before ending his shift.

Little did I know, I would be waiting 2.5 hours for my room to be ready. That was disappointing as I was hoping to refresh and relax a bit before my SO arrived. Once the room was ready, I had to rush around due to time constraints.

The other unfortunate situation was our oversight. We left a few clothing items/shoes in the room (pricey ones)- I'm quite sure we left them in the closet drawer. I contacted lost & found and was advised of their protocol for unclaimed items in Lost & Found.
A courtesy call when the items were discovered would've been super appreciated, however, I understand that is a big ask considering all of the belongings travelers may leave behind at hotels. At this price point for a multi-night stay, a courtesy call really shouldn't be too much to ask.

The breakfast at Travelle inside the restaurant did not disappoint! Great food and service!

Overall, I would recommend Langham Chicago. I only gave it 4 stars due to the 2.5hr wait (I received our room keys at 5:30). I arrived at 3 so that I could properly prepare for our evening plans which did not happen.

We stayed one night here at Harvey House. It is named after a 1950's movie which is available in the rooms on DVD to watch, which we did watch!
So good and simple with a great story.
The woman who owns it, really loves what she does and it shows.

Despite new regulations for BnB's since Covid she has proven resilient in providing great company, healthy food selection for breakfast, quiet place with wonderful calming music.

The train goes by frequently but it is not bothersome. You are in the outskirts of the city so there will be trains.

We walked to dining about 7 min away for dinner.
The bed was incredible, pillows fluffy, and sheets incredibly soft, you don't want to leave the bed.
Peacefull ambiance with dimming lights sure to make a romantic night!

The fireplace was relaxing and kept the place very warm.
We had the Garden room and the tub was very welcoming for two people to unwind.

Highly recommend this local gem and support this wonderful woman keeping kindness alive in this city.

We absolutely loved our stay here. We stayed in the Golden Chest room. Beth is such a great hostess and is very welcoming. The entire location is very warm and cozy. The common area is beautiful. There are nice and comfy couches to relax on and coffee available in the common area too. The Harvey House is in a great area. It's minutes away from downtown Oak Park and from the Green Line. The area has so many dinner options available in the area. There's on street parking available in front of the Harvey House. For breakfast, there were plenty of delicious options. Chocolate croissants, savory scones, hard boiled eggs, quiche, fresh juices, granola, muffins, etc. The room was absolutely beautiful. Even though the house was fully booked, you would never know it because it was so peaceful!

We can't wait for our next visit.

Beth is kind and friendly, but also gives you your privacy. The house is so incredibly charming, and each little detail is anticipated. We stayed in the Jimmy Stewart suite, and from the towel warmers to the lovely bed linens, every inch of the room was relaxing and comfortable. We will definitely be staying here anytime we come to Chicago or Oak Park.

Harvey House es una hermosa posada de ladrillo que se encuentra decididamente en una hilera de casas de Oak Park bien decoradas pero no ostentosas. La caminata hasta la puerta principal desde el estacionamiento en la calle es impresionante pero no está fuera de lugar para el vecindario.

La cerradura inteligente en la puerta de entrada te permite entrar silenciosamente (suponiendo que sepas tu código) y la hermosa decoración te da la bienvenida adentro. El personal es amable y atento, y hay té y café de autoservicio disponibles en todo momento, además de algunos pequeños bocadillos saludables como barras de granola (pero le aconsejo que traiga algunos de sus bocadillos favoritos ya que las opciones son limitadas).

Las habitaciones son tan grandiosas como el resto del lugar, con amplio espacio y techos altos. Todo estaba limpio, fresco y moderno, con una chimenea de dos lados y una maravillosa bañera de hidromasaje para dos (otras habitaciones pueden tener diferentes opciones). El aire acondicionado era una unidad de ventana y los controles del calentador central estaban bloqueados a una temperatura alta, por lo que necesitábamos luchar uno con el otro (llegamos a una temperatura agradable pero se sintió terriblemente derrochador). En el lado positivo, el ventilador del aire acondicionado bloqueaba el sonido de los trenes que pasaban por las vías elevadas a menos de una cuadra de distancia.

Incluso con esos problemas, el resto de la experiencia fue tan positiva que volveríamos otra vez.

Beth es una anfitriona maravillosa. Disfruté de mi estancia y volveré. La habitación era espaciosa y estaba impecable. ¡El patio es magnífico! Disfruté de la zona de desayuno. Preciosa selección y excelente café. Como mujer que se queda sola, aprecio la conciencia de seguridad. Cámaras en las zonas comunes. No en las habitaciones como en una revisión anterior. También aprecio que Beth usara una máscara. Tengo varias personas en mi vida con diversos problemas médicos y no puedo ser imprudente con sus vidas. 10 de los 10 !

Mi marido y yo nos alojamos aquí durante unas pequeñas vacaciones en Chicago. Es un lugar muy lindo, con un hermoso patio trasero para un agradable y relajante desayuno. Está en un vecindario tranquilo pero está justo al lado del tren, por lo que puede ser un pequeño problema de ruido para algunos, pero a nosotros no nos afectó en absoluto. De hecho, nos hizo la vida muy fácil ya que podíamos llegar a cualquier lugar que quisiéramos en tren. La dueña fue súper amable y nos dio todo lo que le pedimos (copas de vino, abridor de botellas, platos, etc.), aunque es muy habladora.

Mi ÚNICO problema es la distribución de la habitación. Nuestra nevera estaba literalmente justo al lado del inodoro del baño. ¡A 2 pies del trono real! Lo cual no es nada sanitario. Hubo algunas veces que mi esposo fue a poner algo mientras yo estaba usando las instalaciones y simplemente me asusté y le dije que esperara hasta que terminara (por razones sanitarias, no por modestia). No soy alguien que se preocupe por los gérmenes tanto como otras personas. ¡Pero eso es asqueroso! Y esa es la única razón por la que le doy una reseña de 4 estrellas y no de 5 estrellas.
